Welcome to the Business Information Technology degree or ITBBA page.

The Business Information Technology studies consist of joint studies and other studies tailored to your specific needs.

As a Business Information Technology student, you will have the opportunity to focus on your strengths and develop yourself in a multidisciplinary way. By choosing your Major and learning path well, you will build up the skills you need to support your career goals.

On this page, you can find information to support your study planning. Your guidance counsellor assists you with planning your personal study plan (PSP). You can find the name of your guidance counsellor on the Peppi main page by clicking "Student data" and pressing the "Student data" button at the bottom of the box.

Key competences (65 credits + 0-6 credits)

Brush up studies. At the beginning of your studies, you take level tests. Based on the results, you will receive a recommendation to participate in a preparatory course in Swedish or English. (0 - 6 credits)

Internship (30 credits)

Thesis (10 credits). Students who began their studies before spring 2027 have the option of completing a 15-credit thesis instead.

The key competencies of the Business Information Technology degree are required of all students studying the degree. They are

Introduction to Digital Services (5 cr)
Introduction to Business Driven ICT (5 cr)
Introduction to ICT Infrastructure and Cloud Services (5 cr)
Introduction to Software Development (5 cr)

Language and culture studies (15 credits)
Your degree includes 15 credits of language and cultural studies. The courses you take depend on your language background.

If you have an educational background from Finland (or you have Finnish as your mother tongue or you have studied Finnish as a second language S2)

You will complete the following:

Professional Swedish (Svenska för arbetslivet 5 credits)
Finnish Business Communication (5 credits)
(or other Finnish course according to your level)
and one other language course (5 credits)

If you do not have educational background from Finland

You will complete:

Finnish language and culture (15 credits)

👉 If you already have some basic Finnish skills, take the Beginners Finnish level test to find the right starting level.

This page also contains instructions for applying for exemption from Swedish, if your educational background is in Finland, but you do not have adequate prior Swedish language studies.

During the professional competences courses, you develop competences in a specific subject area. In the first semester of your studies, you choose your major and add the studies to your PSP (Personal Study Plan). In the ITBBA degree, majors are

Digital Services (30 - 85 credits)
Software Development (30 - 85 credits)
ICT and Business (30 - 85 credits)
ICT Infrastructures and Cloud Services (30 - 85 credits)

Your degree’s learning paths are also helpful in planning your studies. The goal is to deepen your competence in a specific professional field based on your interests.

Digital Services

The Digital Services spesialisation will prepare you to work as a business-oriented developer of multi-channel digital services.
Learning paths: Digital Services Developer, 3D-developer

Software Development

The studies emphasise software development methods, processes and tools. There will also be a special focus on software production as a business.
Learning paths: Full Stack developer, Back End developer, Front End developer

ICT and Business

Graduate as a business developer using ICT solutions and as an IT specialist.
Learning paths: ICT Solution Consultant, Data Analytics Developer

ICT Infrastructures and Cloud Services

Special emphasis is placed on server solutions, operating systems, data networks and security from the perspective of both the individual service and the organisation.

Learning paths in Business Information Technology (Excel 14.4.26)

Complementary professional competences in Business Information Technology Studies give you the option to develop your competencies in other IT fields than your Major. Here you can add courses from Majors other than the one you chose.

Complementary professional competences give you the option to develop your competences in new subject areas. These courses can be taken from any Haaga-Helia Bachelor degree you wish.

Interesting studies can also be found in Haaga-Helia's minor packages. They are usually 15 credit packets in a specific professional subject area.

In addition to the above, you can also choose studies from other universities of applied sciences through the cross-study service (RIPA). Also 3amk.fi and the Ulysseus European University have their own offering. Always remember to discuss the suitability of any course for your own degree with your guidance counsellor.

Work placement consists of 30 credits. You can complete it in full-time or part-time work. If you have completed a suitable employment period before starting your Haaga-Helia studies, you can apply work placement demonstration. Find out more on the work placement site.

The thesis is an independent project completed after the professional competences courses and is worth 10 credits. It is often carried out in collaboration with a company or other external organization as a research or development project. Familiarize yourself with the Haaga-Helia thesis guidelines as well as ITBBA degree’s thesis guidelines.
