Haaga-Helia's different modes of study enable learning in different stages of life and for different types of learners. The studies offer a wide range of opportunities to develop your skills in a practical and flexible way. On this page you can read more about the different ways of studying. For more detailed information on study modes, please check the details from the degree programme's website.
Study modes
Haaga-Helia's degree programmes are available as full-time, part-time or virtual studies. Read more about the different study modes to find out what they mean in practice and choose the most suitable option for you when applying.
Full-time studies
In full-time studies, you study mainly during the working hours on campus or online. Studies also include projects, group work, virtual studies, independent studies and work placements.
Full-time studies often require attendance, especially at the beginning of the studies. As the studies progress, there will be more independent learning.
Bachelor's degree programmes offered as full-time studies
Part-time studies
Part-time studies are designed to be completed alongside work. The amount of independent study and the frequency of face-to-face meetings depend on the degree programme. Students have flexibility in planning their studies and can choose the most suitable option from the courses that are offered. Part-time studies also include project and group work. Bachelor's degrees include a work placement.
Student's independent work and ability to schedule their studies is important in part-time studies, as they include more independent learning and virtual studies compared to full-time studies.

Virtual studies
In virtual studies, you study completely remotely. Studies include scheduled online meetings and independent virtual studies.
Many ways to progress in studies
You can progress in your studies by taking courses or by using the competences acquired at work, for example.
Course implementations
At Haaga-Helia, there are several different ways of implementing the courses. You will learn more about the implementation types at the beginning of your studies when you are enrolling for the courses.
- Contact: The course includes scheduled teaching on campus.
- Online: Classes are taught online at the time indicated in the timetable.
- Virtual: The course is entirely virtual and does not include meetings.
- Blended: In addition to the actual implementation type, the course includes online teaching and/or individual virtual learning in an e-learning environment.
Other ways to progress in your studies
Learning also takes place outside the courses, and at universities of applied sciences, it is strongly linked to work. This means that you can also earn credits by gaining competences at work or by demonstrating your prior learning acquired at work or free-time activities, for example.
Haaga-Helia offers a wide range of opportunities for internationalisation. For example, you can go on an exchange abroad or complete an international double degree.
