Student identification, usernames and passwords

The following groups of students will receive the identification request at the earliest 14 days before the start of their studies:

• Degree students
• Students at the School of Professional Teacher Education (also pedagogue students at Metropolia and Turku UAS)
• Students at the Open UAS that enrol though the online shop
• Students that enrol through the cross-study service (RIPA)
• Upper secondary education students

The following groups of students will receive the identification request immediately when the students are registered in the student register:

• Incoming international exchange students
• Students at the Open UAS that enrol though the e-form or Lyyti (for example students finalizing their studies in the open UAS)
• Degree students accepted through the open path and the open path flexible separate application
• Double-degree students
• Students that transfer from another University

Note! If you have a valid study right at Haaga-Helia, you will not receive a new identification request. You continue your studies with the same username and password.

Changing or renewing your password in the identification service

The only way to reset a forgotten password is via the Haaga-Helia's identification service. You can also change your password through the same site. First log in with your username: Identification service 

Select "Change Password" or "Reset Password" and follow the instructions. To renew your password, the system will ask you to identify again via the Suomi.fi e-service, Eidas or Finnish Authenticator.  

Password change on campus workstations or on your VDI-desktop

• Log in from campus workstations or on your VDI-desktop with your user ID.
• On campus workstations press Ctrl+Alt+Del. Note! In your VDI environment, use the menu at the top of the screen and select Ctrl+Alt+Del.
• In the window that appears, select "Change a password" and fill in the fields:  
  • Old password
  • New password  
  • Confirm password

Password change at Helpdesk

If you are unable to change your password with the aforementioned options, you can visit your campus's helpdesk to get your password reset. Please remember to bring you ID along. If you are abroad and cannot visit a campus, please contact [email protected] for futher instructions.

Password complexity rules

• The password must be at least 12 characters long
• The password must not contain a name or part of the name (e.g. if your name is Mikael, the password must not contain a combination of letters ikae)
• The password cannot contain your username
• The password must meet at least three of the following four rules:
  • at least one number: 0–9
  • at least one lowercase letter: a–z
  • at least one capital letter: A–Z
  • at least one of the following special characters: !.?+-%&#£$€....

You can find your username in the identification request that was sent to you by email before the start of your studies. Please check your junk mail if necessary.

If you cannot find your identification request or if you have never gotten one with your username, please choose "Don't know your account" in the identification service: Identification service

The system will direct you to identify through the Suomi.fi e-service, after which you will see your username.

At Haaga-Helia, there is a two-step authentication process in place. This means that when you log in to your email or, for example, your VDI desktop from outside the school, you need to verify your identity. 

To authenticate, you need to make the necessary settings for the Microsoft service
managed by Haaga-Helia. The method of authentication is the Microsoft Authenticator, which you download to your phone. Please note, that the app is always free in both the Play- and the App store! In practice, you will receive a message for your Microsoft Authenticator app, which will help in verifying the identity of the person signing in.

When you have done the identification and activated your username you get access to the student desktop Peppi. Please note, that after indentification, there is an up to 24 hour delay before Peppi is activated, please be patient. 

In Peppi you can plan your studies, communicate with your guidance counsellor, enrol for courses, check your grades and print your transcript of records.

Haaga-Helia students can get some benefits in software purchases. In general, these benefits require a valid Haaga-Helia username.

Can I still access my Haaga-Helia email after my study right has expired?

The school email address will remain open for 30 days after the graduation date or the date when your study right expires. After this the email address will be locked and deleted. Every student whose study right has ended will receive an email with the exact date that the email address will be deleted. Please also remember to tell your friends, associates, etc. that your email address is changing.

Note! School usernames and passwords should not be used for non-study related services.

Which services will stop working as soon as my study right expires?

Access to Moodle courses and Peppi functions will end on the day of graduation or on the day when your study right expires. Access through Haka login will also end immediately.

How long will the data remain in Moodle after my study right expires?

Course material will remain in Moodle for up to six months, but access to Moodle courses will end on the day of graduation or on the day when your study right expires. Note! Teachers are not obliged to keep their material there, but all material will be removed after 6 months at the latest.

My right to study has expired and I need a transcript of records, how can I get one?

Upon graduation, you will receive an electronic degree certificate/certificate, which includes, among other documents, a transcript of records in Finnish and English (including all the studies you have successfully completed).

Once you have submitted your resignation application, you will receive an electronically certified certification of resignation and a transcript of records by email.

A graduated or resigned student can later order a new transcript of records for a fee. For more information on ordering different types of certificates after graduation or resignation, please visit the Haaga-Helia website.

I become a student again after my study right has expired, what happens to my username and email address?

Your username will remain the same, only your student number will change. If possible, the email address can remain the same, but old emails have been deleted.

I have stored data on the M-drive, how long will the data remain on the M-drive after my study right has expired?

The data will be stored at the M-drive until the username is deleted. Note! Always remember to back up your files and important emails before your study right ends.
