Tuition fees and scholarships

New students

Payment deadlines are written in your acceptance letter. You must pay the tuition fee by the given deadline or you will lose your study right. The full annual tuition fee for your first academic year must be paid before your studies begin.

Once you pay the fee, you are considered registered as an attending student for the academic year.

Continuing students

You will pay tuition fees twice a year from your second academic year onwards, and each payment covers half of one academic year’s tuition fee.

Payment deadlines:

• 31 May (fee for the autumn semester)
• 30 November (fee for the spring semester)

If you pay after the deadline, a late payment fee will be added. See the next section for more information.

Study Services will email you the tuition fee payment instructions a couple of months before each deadline.

If you are required to pay tuition fees, you do not enrol yourself as present or absent in Peppi. After you pay the tuition fee, Study Services will enrol you either as present or absent for the upcoming semester.

If you have a statutory reason for absence (such as parental leave), please contact Study Services. They will help make sure you do not use your normal absence semesters by mistake.

Spring payment deadline (for autumn semester)

The tuition fee for the autumn semester must be paid by 31 May.

If you pay late:

Contact your Study Advisor or Study Services to receive the Flywire link for the late payment fee.

• Payment in June:
  • Late payment fee: EUR 300
  • Total amount to pay: EUR 300 late fee + the tuition fee
• Payment in July:
  • Late payment fee: EUR 600
  • Total amount to pay: EUR 600 late fee + the tuition fee
• If the tuition fee is not paid by 31 July:
  • You will lose your right to study
  • The Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) will be able to see the loss of study right in their system.
• Payment from 1 August onwards:
  • Late payment fee: EUR 900
  • Statutory processing fee: EUR 50 (charged when you apply for regranting of your study right)
  • Total amount to pay: EUR 900 late fee + the tuition fee (+ EUR 50 processing fee)
  • You will also need to apply for regranting of your study right.
  • The regranting of your study right is not guaranteed and is decided by the degree director.

Autumn payment deadline (for spring semester)

The tuition fee for the spring semester must be paid by 30 November.

If you pay late:

  • You will also need to apply for regranting of your study right.
  • The regranting of your study right is not guaranteed and is decided by the degree director.

Important note about regranting your study right

If you lose your study right because you did not pay your tuition fee and it is later regranted, your tuition fee situation will be reviewed again. 

If you had a EUR 900 late payment fee before you lost your study right, you must still pay this EUR 900 when you apply to get your study right back. You must pay this together with the current tuition fee.

If your earlier tuition fee was lower, your tuition fee will be updated to the current tuition fee rate for the rest of your studies.

Students who are required to pay tuition fees will receive detailed payment instructions by email from Study Services.

Non-EU/EEA citizens:

• The tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens who start their studies after 1 August 2025 is 12,000 € per year.
• The tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens who start their studies before August 2025 is 10,500 € per year 

EU and EEA citizens: 

EU and EEA citizens do not pay tuition fees to Haaga-Helia UAS. MCI Innsbruck and University of Seville (USE) charge tuition fees according to the following (sums subject to changes):

• MCI Innsbruck:
- EU students x [363,36 € (fee/semester) + 20,70 € (student union fee/semester)]
• University of Seville:
- EU students: 3,000 €

EU citizens

• If you are a citizen of one of the European Union (EU) countries, you do not have to pay tuition fees.
• EU countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

EEA and Switzerland citizens

If you are a citizen of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, you do not have to pay tuition fees.

Resident permits in Finland

You are exempted from paying tuition fees if you have one of the following residence permits in Finland:

• EU Blue Card in Finland
• Continuous residence permit in Finland (Type A) granted for purposes other than studies may exempt the holder from paying tuition fees. However, tuition fees will still apply if:
  • The person’s initial residence permit in Finland was granted for study purposes. In this case, they will be required to pay tuition fees, even if they later receive a continuous residence permit (Type A) for other reasons.
  • The person holds a continuous residence permit (Type A) based on family ties in Finland, and their family member originally came to Finland on a residence permit granted for study purposes.
• EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
• Permanent residence permit card in Finland, Type P permit
• EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence permit card in Finland (Type P-EU)
• Brexit residence permit (SEU or P SEU) to Finland
• Residence permit card on the basis of temporary protection in Finland (from 1 December 2024 onwards)

Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences make the decision whether you are required to pay fees or not based only on the Finnish Immigration Service’s residence permit decision, which is checked from the copy of your residence permit card attached to your application documents.

Haaga-Helia adheres to the national policy, where the exemption from the tuition fee depends on the status of the residence permit on 1 August in the autumn semester and 2 January in the spring semester. If the residence permit is valid on 1 August, no payment is required for the autumn semester. If the residence permit is valid on 2 January, no payment is required for the spring semester. If you have applied for a residence permit but have not received the decision by the date when the tuition fee is due, you will have to pay the fee.

Spring application 2026

An applicant who accepts the offered study place within 14 days and pays the tuition fee for the first academic year within 30 days of receiving the acceptance notification, will be given an Early Bird discount. The Early Bird discount is 2000 € reduction of the first year’s tuition fee. The acceptance email from Haaga-Helia will include detailed instructions for payment. The Early Bird discount only applies if an applicant is accepted by 8 June 2026. If the applicant has been accepted to Haaga-Helia from 9 June 2026 onwards, they have to pay the full tuition fee for the academic year 2026-2027. 

The discount applies to the Joint application period and the Rolling application period.

Autumn application 2026

Students accepted through the Joint or Rolling application must accept their study place in Studyinfo and pay the tuition fee by 26 November 2026 at 3 pm Finnish time (GMT/UTC+3) at the latest. Students cannot enroll for the spring semester 2027 before the full tuition fee has been paid and all required documents have been submitted to Admission Services.

An applicant who accepts the offered study place within 7 days and pays the tuition fee within 14 days of receiving the acceptance notification, will be given an Early Bird discount. The Early Bird discount is 2000 € reduction of the first year’s tuition fee. The acceptance email from Haaga-Helia will include detailed instructions for payment. The Early Bird discount only applies if an applicant is accepted by 11 November 2026. If the applicant has been accepted to Haaga-Helia from 12 November 2026 onwards, they have to pay the full tuition fee for the spring semester 2027. 

The discount applies to the Joint application period and the Rolling application period.

Applicants enrolling in a bachelor's degree program from 1 January 2022 onwards who achieve excellent SAT scores are eligible for a 50% tuition fee waiver for the entire duration of their studies.

Applicants with SAT scores above 1450 will be offered a study place at Haaga-Helia with a 50% scholarship in the form of tuition fee waiver for the entire degree, completed within the statutory study time (3,5 years). Five of these waivers are awarded each year: 2 for the January intake and 3 for the August intake. Please note that this 50% waiver cannot be combined with the Early Bird discount or the other scholarships. A degree that is completed in the statutory study time takes 3,5 years/7 semesters.

Deadlines for the 50% tuition fee waiver:

• January intake: The applicant must accept the study place offer within 7 days and make the payment within 14 days.
• August intake: The applicant must accept the study place offer within 14 days and make the payment within 30 days.

If the deadline is not met, the 50% tuition fee waiver will be awarded to the next eligible applicant, and any late acceptance will require full tuition payment.

Eligible students will have to contact Study Services for a link for scholarship application.

Each scholarship can be granted once during your studies if you meet the requirements. You can only get one of the following scholarships during the same scholarship evaluation period.

If you want to get both scholarships, you have to apply for the A2-level scholarship before applying for the B1-level scholarship, unless you are applying directly for the B1 level.

To be eligible, your mother tongue must be a language other than Finnish.Only the Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) is accepted as proof of Finnish language skills for scholarship eligibility. The YKI examination system assesses proficiency at three distinct levels: Basic (perustaso), Intermediate (keskitaso), and Advanced (ylin taso). Applicants must meet the required proficiency level specified by the scholarship criteria.

A scholarship worth 2 000 €

Can be awarded to a Bachelor level student who has completed both of the following requirements:

• YKI Basic level of Finnish language grade 2 corresponds to CEFR level A2
  • A grade 2 must be obtained in one productive skill area (speaking or writing), and at least another grade 2 in a different skill area.
  • The minimum requirement for the test is 2+2+1+1 (≈2)

AND

• has completed a total of 60 ECTS credits at Haaga-Helia UAS or its partner institutions (e.g. other Finnish higher education institutions and exchange studies) over two consecutive semesters (evaluation period).

The two consecutive semesters reviewed for the scholarship can be either the two previous semesters, or the previous and the current semester (evaluation periods), as long as you have 60 ECTS in total for those two semesters. Please note that we do not give scholarships for previous studies done at other schools. The study semesters must be completed in the same degree programme. The first opportunity to apply for this scholarship is during the 2nd semester, and the last opportunity is your last study semester. If you graduate in one academic year or less, you can apply for a scholarship by contacting Study Services.

A scholarship worth 3 500 €

Can be awarded to a Bachelor level student who has completed both of the following requirements:

• YKI Intermediate level of Finnish language grade 3 corresponds to CEFR level B1
  • Requirement as in the language proficiency requirement for a citizenship application.

AND

• has completed 120 ECTS credits at Haaga-Helia UAS or its partner institutions (e.g. other Finnish higher education institutions and exchange studies) over four semesters (two evaluation periods).

The 120 credits must be completed during two (2) evaluation periods (2x60 ECTS). The last evaluation period must be either the two latest consecutive study semesters, or the latest and the current study semester. The study semesters must be completed in the same degree programme, and you will not get a scholarship after the first semester of the evaluation period even if you have the required credits already. The first opportunity to apply for this scholarship is during the 4th semester and the last opportunity is your last study semester. YKI- certificate scholarship payment schedule

Scholarship payments are made four times a year.
If you meet the scholarship requirements and send your application before the deadline, you will get your payment in that payment round.

 Payment months and deadlines

• January payment – apply by 15 December
• March payment – apply by 28 February
• August payment – apply by 15 June
• October payment – apply by 30 September

Scholarship for online Bachelor degree programmes: 

A scholarship worth 2 000 €

Can be awarded to a Bachelor level student who has completed 60 ECTS credits with a GPA of 4.5 in Haaga-Helia UAS or collaboration institutions (e.g. other Finnish higher education institutions and exchange studies).

The 60 credits must be completed during the two latest consecutive study semesters 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 or 5 & 6 (evaluation periods). The study semesters must be completed in the same degree programme, and you will not get a scholarship after the first semester of the evaluation period even if you have the required credits already. The scholarship will be paid after you have paid and finished both semesters. The scholarship can only be awarded once during the course of studies. If you graduate in one academic year or less, you can apply for a scholarship by contacting Study Services.

Students will receive a message from Study Services with instructions and a link to the application. Students who started their degree studies in autumn semester will receive the scholarship application link and instructions in September. For those, who started studies in spring semester, the link will be sent in February.

A scholarship which covers 20 % of the cost of the annual tuition fee

Can be awarded to a Bachelor level student who has completed 55 ECTS credits in Haaga-Helia UAS or collaboration institutions (e.g. other Finnish Higher Education Institutions, exchange studies). The 55 credits must be completed during the consecutive study semesters 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 or 5 & 6. The study semesters must be completed in the same degree programme, and you will not get a scholarship after the first semester of the evaluation period even if you have the required credits already. The scholarship will be paid after you have paid and finished both semesters.

Students are eligible to apply for a scholarship based on study progress three times during their studies. The first opportunity to apply for a scholarship is during the 3rd semester. From the 7th semester onwards, study credits are no longer counted towards a scholarship. If you graduate in one academic year or less, you can apply for a scholarship by contacting Study Services. 

Students will receive a message from Study Services with instructions and a link to the application. Students who started their degree studies in autumn semester will receive the scholarship application link and instructions in September. For those, who started studies in spring semester, the link will be sent in February.

A scholarship which covers 20 % of the cost of the annual tuition fee

Can be awarded to a Bachelor level student who has completed 55 ECTS credits in Haaga-Helia UAS or collaboration institutions (e.g. other Finnish Higher Education Institutions, exchange studies). The 55 credits must be completed during the consecutive study semesters 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 or 5 & 6. The study semesters must be completed in the same degree programme, and you will not get a scholarship after the first semester of the evaluation period even if you have the required credits already. The scholarship will be paid after you have paid and finished both semesters. Students are eligible to apply for a scholarship based on study progress three times during their studies. The first opportunity to apply for a scholarship is during the 3rd semester. From the 7th semester onwards, study credits are no longer counted towards a scholarship. If you graduate in one academic year or less, you can apply for a scholarship by contacting Study Services.  

A scholarship which covers 30 % of the cost of the last annual tuition fee (for students who have started their studies before 1 January 2022)

Can be awarded to a Bachelor level student completing the degree in six academic semesters or less.

Scholarships are not available for students who are studying for the first academic year in Haaga-Helia unless a student is graduating in two academic semesters or sooner.

Eligible students will have to contact Study Services for a link for scholarship application. 

A scholarship worth 2 000 €

Can be awarded to a Master level student who has completed 60 ECTS credits with a GPA of 4.5 in Haaga-Helia UAS or collaboration institutions (e.g. other Finnish higher education institutions and exchange studies).

The 60 credits must be completed during the two latest consecutive study semesters 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 (evaluation periods). The study semesters must be completed in the same degree programme, and you will not get a scholarship after the first semester of the evaluation period even if you have the required credits already. The scholarship will be paid after you have paid and finished both semesters. The scholarship can only be awarded once during the course of studies. If you graduate in one academic year or less, you can apply for a scholarship by contacting Study Services.

Students will receive a message from Study Services with instructions and a link to the application.

20% scholarship to cover the cost of the semesterly tuition fee (for students starting their studies from 1 January 2022 onwards) 

Master-level students can apply for two different scholarships. A scholarship based on study progress can be awarded to a Master's degree student who has completed a minimum of 60 ECTS credits during the two consecutive semesters 1 & 2. A scholarship based on statutory graduation time can be awarded to a student who has graduated during the second or third semester. Both of these scholarships are 20% of the semesterly tuition fee. Students will receive a message from Study Services in February during their third semester with instructions and a link to the application.

In the joint master degree program AI for Business Transformation (UlysseusAI) a student can be awarded a scholarship if the student has completed a minimum of 60 ECTS credits during the two consecutive semesters 1 & 2. This scholarship is 20% of the semesterly tuition fee. Students will receive a message from Study Services in February during their third semester with instructions and a link to the application.

If a student of the UlysseusAI program is graduating in the statutory study time (in four semesters), the student can apply for a scholarship based on statutory graduation.  This scholarship is 20% of the semesterly tuition fee. Students will receive a message from Study Services on the graduation day with instructions and a link to the application..
 

According to the Universities of Applied Sciences Act, a student may enrol as absent for the first academic year only due to legal reasons (Act 932/2014):

• Military service according to the Conscription Act (1438/2007), Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007), or Women's Voluntary Military Service Act (194/1995) in Finland
• The student needs time off their studies to take care of a child in regard to the child’s birth or adoption (14.1.2022/52)
• An illness or injury, which prevents you from beginning the studies (affects your right to be absent later)

Please note that deferring the study place for any other reasons is not possible.

Tuition fees are always paid in full, and scholarships are paid separately.

Haaga-Helia UAS uses Flywire service for all tuition fee payments. We will send payment instructions together with Flywire payment link to all students who are required to pay tuition fees.

Application fees apply to admissions starting on or after 1 January 2025, for programmes beginning on or after 1 August 2025. The application fee is EUR 100 and is charged per semester, not per application. The same documents exempt applicants from both tuition fees and application fees. 

Tuition fees apply only to degree programmes taught in English, while application fees apply to degree programmes in all languages. The document granting an exemption from the application fee must be valid at the time of application. The application fee does not guarantee admission to studies. Please note that housing, meals, personal expenses, transportation, and health insurance are not included in the tuition fee. The Finnish Immigration Service requires students to have at least EUR 800 per month to cover living costs. So, in addition to the tuition fee, you must have EUR 9,600 to be able to study in Finland for a year and to get a residence permit in Finland.

However, we strongly recommend having more than the minimum requirement and not relying on part-time work to finance your studies. This ensures you can fully focus on your studies and enjoy your student experience in Finland.

Example 1: Second-Year Student

Q: "I’m a second-year student. Can I apply for the scholarship?"

A: Yes, you can apply for A2 already during your 3rd or 4th semester, or for B1 on your 4th semester:

For A2:

• You completed 60 ECTS credits during semesters 1&2, or 2&3 or 3&4. You have to have the 60 ECTS credits done during two consecutive semesters.
• You have passed the YKI test at Basic level (grade 2) as specified.
• You meet the other eligibility criteria.

For B1:

• You completed 120 ECTS credits during semesters 1&2 and 3&4. You have to have the 120 ECTS credits done in four different semesters.
• You have passed the YKI test at intermediate level (grade 3) as specified.
• You meet the other eligibility criteria.

Example 2 (student absent for one semester):

Q:
"I completed 30 credits in my 1st semester, but I was absent during my 2nd semester. Then, I completed 30 credits during my 3rd semester and reached Finnish level A2. Can I apply for the scholarship now?"

A:
If you started your studies in August, you only have the right to be absent for the reasons listed on our website: Absence during the first academic year (as the academic year ends in July).

If you started the studies in January, you can be absent the second term. You can then apply for the scholarship, as the credits are done in consecutive study semesters that are considered to be the evaluation periods.

Example 3:

Q: "I'm studying in my 5th semester.  I completed 60 ECTS credits both in 1st & 2nd and 3rd & 4th semesters but only did my first YKI-test during 5th semester. Can I apply for the A2-scholarship by contacting the study services during my 5th semester, basing the scholarship on study progress on the 3rd and 4th semesters?"

A: Yes, you can apply for A2 scholarship, and get it based on the 3rd and 4th semesters or 4th and 5th semesters.
