Haaga-Helia's Rules and Regulations Concerning Student’s Rights and Obligations, Tuition Fees and Scholarships

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (hereinafter “Haaga-Helia UAS”) provides education in accordance with the respective national regulations and its internal rules and regulations.

The following expressions under these rules and regulations shall have the following meanings: 

Academic Semester means either the time period between 1.1. – 31.7. (Spring Semester) or 1.8.-31.12. (Fall Semester) of each year. 

Academic Year means the time period between 1.8.-31.7. of each year. 

Fees means fees payable by the student to Haaga-Helia UAS including but not limited tuition fee and other costs associated with the fee structure of the Programme. Fees include also Healthcare Fee for Students in Higher Education payable to KELA, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. 

Policies means various Haaga-Helia UAS policy documents include but not limit to Finnish laws and regulations related to university of applied sciences studies, Degree Regulations, IT and Security Policy, Library terms and conditions. The mentioned policy documents are subject to be updated/changed from time to time. 

Programme means the academic degree programme for which the student is enrolled, and which is specified in the Study Information.  

Study Information means the document(s) (on paper or electronic form) published and updated by Haaga-Helia UAS from time to time containing details of Haaga-Helia’s Programmes of Study, Policies and other relevant information for students enrolled at Haaga-Helia UAS. 

  1. Haaga-Helia’s obligations 

Haaga-Helia UAS provides the student with a Programme in accordance with the Study Information.  The student is awarded the related academic degree after successfully completing the Programme. Specific details relating to the arrangements for the Programme are available in the Study information. 

Haaga-Helia UAS may grant scholarships to enrolled tuition fee paying students according to its scholarship policy informed in Haaga-Helia’s webpage

  1. Student’s Obligations  

The student shall inform Haaga-Helia UAS of any change of address and contact numbers and details, otherwise any notices or information sent to the last address provided by the student shall be deemed to have been properly given.  

The student is obliged to comply with the Policies during the Programme. 

2.1 Immigration issues  

The student is aware and agrees that the student is required to have a valid residence permit/visa/etc. to study in Finland. All immigration issues are governed and decided by Finnish government and Finnish Immigration Service. The student is aware that Haaga-Helia UAS does not have any control over the immigration issues.  

The student must be aware and comply with the Finnish legislation on immigration and residence permits/visas. 

2.2 Fees and costs  

Students enrolled to Haaga-Helia UAS who are not deemed comparable to European Union citizens under EU Treaties and studying in English-taught Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, are due to pay the annual tuition fee. All Fees are published in the Study Information, which Haaga-Helia UAS reserves the right to amend from time to time. All Fees may increase by up to 10% over the duration of a student’s norm completion time of studies and no less than three months’ notice will be provided for an increase in Fees.  

The student ensures that all Fees are settled in advance of the commencement of each Academic Semester. New students need to pay the tuition fee for the first two semesters in one instalment. The Fees and payment schedule are specified in the Study Information. The Fees must be paid to Haaga-Helia UAS also during student exchange periods. 

If the Student’s residence permit application is pending (and there is no valid residence permit) the student is required to pay the tuition fee.

Refunds of fees: a tuition fee refund will only be given in accordance with Haaga-Helia UAS Policies and/or Study Information.   

The student will be responsible for the cost of housing, food, travel, mandatory books, a laptop with a camera and an internet connection, a mandatory healthcare fee, insurance and other personal expenses. More information about living costs can be found here

2.3 Behavioural Obligations  

The student shall respect the regulations, resources and facilities offered by Haaga-Helia UAS. Haaga-Helia UAS will not tolerate violence, bullying or intimidation of any kind. All cheating, plagiarism or other academic offences are taken very seriously. Formal disciplinary action will be taken against students who commit any above-mentioned acts. 

2.4 Health/Medical Cover/Insurance 

Since the student is enrolled in a degree programme at a Finnish higher education institution, the student is covered by Finnish Student Health Services when the student has registered as attending for the semester and paid the healthcare fee for the semester. In addition, the student shall be required to have appropriate health and medical insurance for the duration of their stay at Haaga-Helia UAS. The student is aware that Haaga-Helia UAS does not have any insurance whatsoever related to the student. 

Student must provide a name, address, phone number and email address of an appropriate person to be contacted in the event of accident or illness. The student consents that in the event of accident or illness Haaga-Helia may contact the person named.

Student shall comply with any directives from Haaga-Helia UAS regarding any health or medical issues, including but not limited to, any requirements of quarantine, compulsory medical visits and the providing of necessary medical information to the relevant health authorities. 

The above-mentioned list is not an exhaustive list of the responsibilities of the student.   

  1. Processing of personal data 

Haaga-Helia UAS shall collect and process student’s personal data as a controller inter alia for the purpose of student administration and organising studies under the Programme. Haaga-Helia UAS shall process personal data in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679) (“GDPR”), any other applicable data protection legislation in Finland and its own data protection policy.   1. Limitation of Liability 

Haaga-Helia UAS shall be not responsible for its failure to fulfil its obligations under these regulations if such failure is due to circumstances reasonable beyond its control, such as strike or boycott, accidents, failure of any governmental approval required for full performance, civil disorders or commotions, acts of aggression, war, energy or other conservation measures, fire, explosions, failure of utilities, mechanical breakdowns, material shortages, disease, pandemic, catastrophe or other such occurrences.

In addition, circumstances outside of Haaga-Helia UAS’s reasonable control include but not limit to over or under demand from students, staff illness, lack of funding, government restrictions and changes in Ministry regulations. 

If circumstances change outside the reasonable control of Haaga-Helia UAS, Haaga-Helia UAS reserves the right to change or cancel the Programme partly or in its entirety at any time without liability, even after the student has registered at Haaga-Helia UAS.  

Haaga-Helia UAS is not liable for and does not warrant that the Programme is suitable for a specific – whatsoever – occupation/job/position/purpose. 

Haaga-Helia UAS is not liable for any special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages. Limitation of liability does not cover damages caused by intentional or gross negligent acts. 

These rights, obligations and responsibilities are determined according to the legislation of Finland and the regulations of Haaga-Helia UAS.
