The International Business programme offers a great base for those wanting to build a career in global business. Students will acquire both generic and specialized skills needed in expert and managerial positions as well as entrepreneurs. Studies include close co-operation with businesses. The programme is offered both as daytime and blended studies.

The International Business Degree, 210 ECTS, consists of:

• Key competences in business (45 ECTS)
• Key competences in international business (30 ECTS)
• Languages (20 ECTS)
• Major courses in international business (30 ECTS)
• Complementary professional competence courses (40 ECTS)
• Work placement (30 ECTS)
• Thesis in the field of the Major (15 ECTS)

You will complete a minimum of 30 ECTS in your chosen Major and up to 40 ECTS of complementary professional competence courses of your choice. You can tailor your personal study path flexibly as the complementary professional competence courses complementing the Major can be chosen from different competence areas and other Haaga-Helia degrees. Options include, for example, studies from business information technology, hospitality management, and aviation business. You can study the Major also during an exchange semester or within a double degree abroad.

The degree is offered either as daytime or blended studies. The daytime studies are taught mainly on campus in the daytime. The blended studies are implemented both on campus (2-3 evenings weekly) and online, and are intended for students with prior work experience. During the blended studies you can deepen your existing competences and update your theoretical knowledge. The whole degree cannot be completed online.

The Accounting and Finance Major focuses on areas, such as, accounting, international finance, profitability controlling, financial reporting and finding the most competitive sources and modes of finance for developing the company.

International Business Communication

The International Business Communication Major develops expert communication and strategic business development skills needed in international organisations. Foreign language competence, intercultural awareness and practical ICT skills are at the core of your studies. You will gain expertise in designing and delivering corporate events and projects. The emphasis is also on multiculturalism, good service ethic and organisational skills.

The International Business programmes in Aviation Business (AVIBBA) and in Digital Business Innovations (DIGIBBA) are offered as full-time contact studies and are taught in Porvoo. Porvoo Campus offers a modern and innovative learning environment, where students work on real company projects. Aviation Business (AVIBBA)

The Degree Programme in Aviation Business offers you an inspiring and unique learning environment, where you step out of your comfort zone, take on different roles, encounter people, learn to listen and understand customer needs, identify opportunities, and create solutions together with partners.

The programme offers excellent opportunities for networking and benefiting from cross-cultural collaboration – and creating friendships. Most students will go on student exchange and some will do their work placement abroad. The wide Haaga-Helia international partner network consists of nearly 200 institutions. The programme offers also various possibilities for internationalisation at home.

Digital Business Innovations (DIGIBBA)

The Degree Programme in Digital Business Innovations curriculum has been designed to promote the development of business competence areas found to be crucial for future’s experts. The programme:

• gives a holistic business understanding and the competencies needed in the changing global and digital business environment in close collaboration with business
• offers students a truly international environment to build their networks and gain cultural intelligence
• supports the students’ personal development through student-centred learning methods that allow them to develop a professional mindset for a lifelong career anywhere in the world
• prepares the students with the skills needed to manage business ethically, responsibly and sustainably.

The core studies provide a comprehensive introduction to business operations in an international setting such as marketing and sales, accounting and finance, human resource management, international trade, project management, supply chain management, data analysis, business law, and economics. Intercultural teamworking skills are developed through a variety of learning approaches, for example, project work together with companies and problem-based learning (PBL). The programme is offered both as full time and part time.

The programme, 210 ECTS, consist of:

• Basic Studies (compulsory for all students): 100 ECTS (including 25 ECTS language studies)
• Specialisation Studies (50 ECTS)
• Free-choice Studies 15 (ECTS)
• Work Placement (30 ECTS). This can be accomplished in Finland or abroad and in several parts, typically 15 ECTS and 15 ECTS, also by working part time during studies.
• Thesis (15 ECTS)

In positions with global tasks and multicultural working environments, language skills are crucial. Therefore the programme contains compulsory and optional languages. Non-native speakers of Finnish study 15 credits of compulsory Finnish and can thereafter choose additional courses in Finnish. They also study 5 cr of English and 5 cr of an additional language. Finnish students study 5 cr of Finnish, English and Swedish and at least 10 cr of a foreign language other than English.

Part-time studies

The learning goals and contents of the curriculum are the same in the Full-time and the Part-time programme studies, but the implementation is different. Part-time studies’ contact sessions are usually 3 evenings a week, between Mon - Thu at 17:40–20:30. At a later stage of the studies contact sessions typically take 2 evenings a week. You can modify your weekly schedules by choosing intensive or virtual courses and summer studies. The programme requires more self-studying than the full-time programme. The whole programme cannot be completed as online studies. Recognition of prior studies and prior learning (RPL) and Work & Study model will help accelerate the studies so that the Part-time programme can be completed in, e.g., 2,5 years.

The programme provides students with a broad set of skills, enabling them to function in roles requiring initiative and a proactive approach. The skills set is built on a core of business studies and strong and diverse language skills. The emphasis is on multiculturalism, communication, good service ethic and organisational skills. The competencies of the graduates are divided into subsets as follows: business understanding, intercultural communication, information management, organisational skills and business operations know-how.

Within Business Service Solutions and Languages the student can choose their advanced professional studies from the following alternatives:

• Organisational Communication
• Entrepreneurship

The student makes the choice after the first academic year. The courses of these specialisation areas are offered only, if there are enough students enrolled for the implementation. It is recommended that the student chooses the free-choice studies to support the chosen specialisation area.
