Open Path for Master Level Studies, Open UAS

Are you interested in business development and management, service business, new digital solutions or sustainable aviation business?

If you have a bachelor level degree suitable for the studies and you want to develop your professional skills, you are welcome to study Master level studies at Haaga-Helia Open UAS!

Successful completion of studies requires good English skills and some work experience. Most studies are completed online, but remember to check the study method from course descriptions. Timetables of the courses will be available before the enrollment starts.

Open Path Studies

Open path studies means a total of at least 30 credits in accordance with the study plan of degree studies. Open path studies completed with good grades give you the opportunity to apply as a degree student via open path application process without having an entrance exam.

When applying for a Master’s degree, in addition to the required degree, you must also have the work experience required for eligibility for Master’s degree programs. To be eligible to apply an applicant must have an appropriate Bachelor’s or a higher degree and at least two years of subsequent work experience in a relevant field. Open path studies can be completed in 1-2 semesters. You can choose from Master's level open path studies in the fields of business, information technology and aviation business.

Compose your open path for Master´s level studies (total 30 ECTS) by completing two open path study modules:

Open Path for Master´s level studies: Common Studies, 15 ECTS

AND choose one of the specialization study modules (15 ECTS) listed below:

Digitalisation and ICT Management
Sustainable Aviation Business

We recommend that you start with common studies and then proceed to specialization studies. If you wish, you can also proceed in the reverse order, as there are no prerequisites for the courses. Complete the open path (min. 30 ECTS) required for open path application flexibly over one or more semesters.

If you want to complete your studies (30 ECTS) in one semester, please enroll simultaneously for common studies (15 ECTS) and for your chosen specialization studies (15 ECTS). Please note! Completing 30 ECTS in one semester corresponds to full-time study.

Master´s level Courses

If your goal is to update the skills you need in working life without aiming for a degree, studying Master's level courses is probably the most suitable option for you. You find the courses in the Open UAS education search.

If you wish, you can later apply via open path application process to become a degree student based on the studies you have completed, provided that you have completed your studies with good academic success (GPA minimum 3,00) and the completed studies are suitable for the degree you are applying for.

What is specialisation?

Specialisation is the body or major of Master's studies that determines the main content of your studies. At least 20 credits of specialisation studies are required to complete and the topic of your thesis (30 cr) must be related to your specialisation. It is recommended to think about the specialisation already in the early stage of your studies. Degree students choose their specialisations right at the beginning of the studies. Depending on the degree program there are three or seven different specialisation options.

What courses can I choose for my free-choice studies as a degree student?

You can complete your studies with free-choice studies that are suitable for you. You can choose free-choice studies from other specialisations, from campusonline or from other Open Universities. These studies must be at master-level and applicable to the degree programme which you are interested in applying for. Only studies at a Finnish University of Applied Sciences will be accepted in Open Path application.

You can complete the courses either in english or in finnish because the content of the course is the same. Student completing a degree in English can do a maximum of 20 ECTS of studies in finnish (at least 70 ECTS must be completed in English, including the thesis).

Can I start my thesis in Open University?

You can start planning and draft your thesis as an Open UAS student. Note that you do not have a Thesis advisor as Open UAS student. Thesis workshops and comprehensive library workshops are offered for all Master students (check also LibGuides where you can find a lot of information about information retrieval and references).

Can I get acquainted with the content of the Master's degree in advance?

You can find the curricula for all Master’s programmes on our website. You can use the information available on the Master's Studies website to support your studies, even if you are not yet a degree student. Can I do remote studies?

If you wish to study remotely you can choose studies which are implemented virtually (VIRTUAL, NONSTOP). ONLINE implementations are also held online, but these require the student to attend meetings regularly (usually 7-8 meetings). In blended implementations there are both contact lessons in a campus in exact times and studying online.

Can I get career guidance?

Haaga-Helia's JobTeaser-service is also available to students of the Open University of Applied Sciences. At JobTeaser you can find self-assessment tools, webinars and other materials related to career planning and job search. You can also book a personal appointment with a career counselor.

How can I apply in an open path application to become a degree student?

Open path application is held twice a year in October and in March-April). You can find the exact dates from our website. The application form will be available at Studyinfo. For a Master's degree programme you are required to have at least 30 ECTS of applicable Master level Open UAS studies registered in the student register with a passing grade (minimum weighed GPA of 3,00) by the deadline set in the admission criteria. Only courses which have been completed in their entirety and which show on the official transcript of records can be considered. In addition, applicants for Master's degree programmes must meet the eligibility requirements regarding a relevant Bachelor's degree and relevant work experience as defined in the admission criteria of each Master's degree programme.

Credits will be checked from the applicants at the end of the semester so the required amount of credits does not have to be ready during the application period. For example in autumn open path application student's transcript of records will be checked during the first week of January before the study right begins.

Can I apply to all the Master's degree programmes in open path application?

It is also possible to apply for all Master's degree programmes in open path application with the exception of the Strategising in Organizations (STROME) -programme and Strategiatyö organisaatioissa (STROM) (In Finnish).

Completing Studies of a Discontinued Master´s Degree at Haaga-Helia UAS

At the Haaga-Helia Open university of Applied Sciences, it is possible to complete Haaga-Helia's Master's degree after the right to study period has ended. Master's students who continue their studies can complete master´s level courses and have guidance for the thesis.

Before registering, or immediately after, the student must contact the teacher responsible for specialisation and the study counsellor, so that they also know about your plan and can guide you with your studies if necessary.

Enrollment

Enrollment for open path studies in the spring 2026 has ended. Seats have been filled in the order of enrollment.

The study fee for the spring semester 2026 is 150 euros per module (15 ECTS). We reserve the right to make changes to the study fee for the autumn semester 2026.

From 9.5.2025 onwards only students who have a Finnish personal identity code can enroll on studies in the Haaga-Helia Open UAS.
