Master's Studies - Frequently Asked Questions

To be eligible to apply an applicant must have an appropriate Bachelor’s or a higher degree and at least two years of subsequent work experience in a relevant field. More detailed instructions about the appropriate degree and work experience are available in each degree programme's information in StudyInfo.fi.

No, it is not a requirement. It is possible to study while you are unemployed, on study leave or on another leave. The thesis is a development project, which is usually done for the student’s own organisation but is can be done for another organisation or for your own business. 

In answering the pre-assignment included in the application process, you can utilise your previous jobs or possible plans of your own business. 

The entrance exams are different depending on the application round, so always read carefully the admission criteria in advance on Studyinfo.fi website, as well as on Haaga-Helia's website. Some of the selection processes include a pre-assignment and some include pre-reading material.

Master level studies completed in other universities, can be included usually to the free-choice studies if they are suitable for the field of study. Please note that the studies must be less than 10 years old.

In degree programmes in Sustainable Aviation Business and Strategising in Organisations, in double degree programme in Business Technologies and Management and in joint degree programme in AI for Business Transformation the specialisation is predefined.

In other degree programmes the specialisation is chosen during the orientation week. Students will receive more information about the specialisations beforehand, and they have the possibility to change the specialisation during the first semester.

In English degree programmes, the student must study 70 ECTS in English including the thesis. The remaining 20 ECTS can be studied in Finnish.

The amount of independent studying, virtual studies and sessions on campus or online depend on the student’s personal study plan and the chosen courses. It is possible to study quite many courses virtually or online but not all of them.

Typically the course implementations take place in the evenings from 17.40 to 20.30. The sessions can take place online or at the campus. "Intensive" contact courses consist of three Fridays and/or Saturdays from 9.00 to 16.00. Virtual courses are independent of time and place.

Master's Degree Programmes in Strategising in Organisations and Sustainable Aviation Business are designed to be studied totally remotely. They include both virtual and online courses. Virtual courses are independent of time and place and online courses include scheduled meetings online.
