Generative AI for smarter knowledge work: From ideas to business value

Looking for GenAI opportunities to automate your complex processes or to make innovative products and services? This event is perfect for managers, IT specialists, consultants, and decision-makers ready to move from “thinking about GenAI” to “implementing GenAI”. The event is organized by the Generative AI-enhanced Knowledge Management in Business (GAIK) project, which is implemented by Haaga-Helia, University of Helsinki and Tampere University. The project aims to reduce information bottlenecks and enhance the productivity of knowledge workers in Finnish SME companies.

In Finnish: Towards a more efficient travel and restaurant business with the power of generative artificial intelligence

Time: 18 September 13–16 | Place: Zoom

This event is aimed specifically at small and medium-sized enterprises in the tourism, accommodation, and restaurant sectors. Practical examples of utilizing generative artificial intelligence as part of the company's daily operations will be presented. The webinar is organized by Haaga-Helia, LAB University of Applied Sciences, and Lapland University of Applied Sciences.

A new round of the Start Smart course for young immigrants in Finland and Estonia is starting. Start Smart combines entrepreneurship with AI to help you create, innovate, and grow your own business. The course is co-created by a multinational team, including lead partner Haaga-Helia, StartUp Refugees and the Estonian Refugee Council.

Looking for pilot companies to test and further develop a testing environment for AI regulation

In the EUSAiR project, we are developing a testing environment for AI regulation, i.e. an AI sandbox, in accordance with the AI Act. We are now looking for 30 companies implementing AI solutions to test and further develop the testing environment. The piloting will begin in October. EUSAiR is a two-year project funded by the European Union's Digital Europe Programme.

The purpose of the HosByte research project's survey is to understand consumers' attitudes towards new types of pricing strategies. AI-based waste identification methods accelerate achieving recycling goals

The Ekoälyä project is developing a technological solution based on sensor technology and machine learning for waste treatment facilities. The aim is to utilize recyclable material more efficiently, reduce hazardous situations at the facilities, and develop interconnected business among different operators. Artificial intelligence identifies design chairs

In the Älyä project, students developed a mobile application for the Recycling Center that recognizes furniture and creates presentation text about it. An interview with Esko Janatuinen, the manager of the Recycling Center's online store. Read the full article (in Finnish).

Younger workers show greater acceptance towards algorithmic management than their older colleagues

Preliminary findings from the survey reveal that 49 % of Finnish professionals in expert, knowledge, and management roles have encountered algorithmic management in their workplace. Despite this widespread exposure, human managers continue to be the overwhelmingly preferred choice. Read the full story.

ALFA Labs accelerates AI-ready education across Europe

ALFA Labs is advancing AI integration and digital readiness in higher education to ensure graduates and professionals gain the skills that businesses increasingly require. In October, the consortium will meet in Innsbruck to finalize a Digital Transformation Plan and begin designing AI-enhanced lesson plans. With tools like an AI Readiness Scale, a 3 ECTS MOOC, and the ALFA Kit, the project supports scalable solutions aligned with the EU AI Act and European Skills Agenda. Read more about ALFA Labs.

CURATE connects students and companies to solve AI challenges

CURATE brings students and businesses together to co-create AI-driven solutions across five European countries. This September in Münster, student teams will pitch entrepreneurial ideas to tackle 10 real-world AI challenges from partner companies. The project showcases how cross-border collaboration and fresh perspectives can spark innovation and build future-ready business capacity. Read more about CURATE.

AI Agency – Skills, productivity, and well-being using artificial intelligence

The project, started in May, explores and develops the competencies and agency of knowledge workers and management in municipalities and wellbeing services counties in the use of generative AI and in developing work practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and occupational wellbeing. The aim is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the nature of agency required for effective AI utilization and to construct a holistic model of AI agency. Read more about the AI Agency project.
