The project explores and develops the competencies and agency of knowledge workers and management in municipalities and wellbeing services counties in the use of generative AI and in developing work practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and occupational wellbeing.
The aim is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the nature of agency required for effective AI utilization and to construct a holistic model of AI agency.
Why this project?
There is a growing need to define human agency in the context of AI use. AI agency complements human agency in human-machine interaction. As AI systems evolve into proactive and autonomous agents, a deeper understanding is needed of the balance between human control and machine autonomy.
Generative AI possesses skills comparable to human cognitive abilities, and every employee using AI needs competence in human-machine communication. The research utilizes the COHUMAIN framework to understand and develop collaboration between knowledge workers and AI. This framework helps identify how AI agency and human cognitive capabilities can be integrated.
Implementation and outcomes
Surveys for professionals across selected sectors (municipals & wellbeing services) as well as participatory action research through workshops with partner organizations will be produced.
Outcomes will include popular, professional, and academic publications, but most importantly, a model of AI agency that supports AI utilization and work development, along with recommendations for implementing the model.
