Changing the degree programme within Haaga-Helia

Changing to a different degree programme means that the title of the degree doesn’t change due to the change of the degree programme.

A student may, on special grounds, apply for a change from one degree programme to another degree programme in the same field, provided that the principle of one study place per term in higher education is observed and the title of the degree does not change due to the change of the degree programme. The student must submit an application stating the grounds for the request to the degree director in charge of the desired degree programme, who will then decide on the student’s admission. (Haaga-Helia degree regulations 16a §.)

In addition, if there are strong grounds for doing so, a student may change from a programme conducted in English to a programme in the same field conducted in Finnish, or vice versa. The decision concerning the change is made by the degree director. (Haaga-Helia degree regulations 16a §.)

A student may have only one study right in force in the same degree programme or degree (Haaga-Helia degree regulations 16a §).

Eligibility requirements

The applicant must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the change:

  • The applicant has made systematic progress in their studies and is progressing according to the statutory study-time. Only students from second semester onwards can be eligible for the change (the applicant needs to have enough credits to prove that they has made systematic progress in their studies).
  • The applicant attends and passes an interview when needed.
  • The change does not create additional study entitlement and the remaining study-time is sufficient for the student to earn the degree.
  • The applicant meets the admission criteria of the degree programme or degree in question. Note! Some degree programmes or degrees have their own admission criteria in addition to the common eligibility requirements. The degree programme or degree specific criteria can be found from the info box 'Applying', linked to the degree.

APPLYING

Spring 2024 application period for changing the degree programme within Haaga-Helia begins on 2 May 2024 at 8 am and ends on 16 May 2024 at 3 pm (Finnish time). The applications are processed in 4 weeks, starting from the end of the application period. You will get information about the decision electronically on June 13 at the latest. Decisions can be made already during the application period.

Note! If your application is approved, you have to accept the offered study place and enrol for the academic year. You have to confirm the offered study place within 7 days of receiving the notification of the decision. You will receive more information about accepting the offered study place with your decision by email.

Before you fill in the application, please authenticate using your Haaga-Helia domain username and password. Fill in the form carefully. Choose the campus where the degree programme, to which you are applying for change, is conducted. In case you consider several alternatives, you need to complete the form for each application separately.

Please notice that changing the degree programme within Haaga-Helia UAS is not automatic.

Note! Master degrees do not take part in the application for changing degree programme during spring 2024.
