Wireless network and Eduroam

Haaga-Helia wireless network is available for use in Malmi, Pasila and Porvoo campuses. Not yet in Vierumäki.

HaagaHeliaPublic -network and data security

HaagaHeliaPublic wireless network is part of our external network, and the traffic is not encrypted. This means that basically, anybody can listen to network traffic. Notice that many services use SSL technology to encrypt the connection. You can recognise this type of connection from https:// prefix in the address bar or from the yellow lock in the bottom bar of the browser. It's recommended to use SSL with all sensitive information.

Data security on Haaga-Helia wireless network is equal to that of the Internet. Keep this in mind when connecting your laptop to the wireless network. Use firewall and anti-virus software on your computer. HeliaPublic is connected to the outside of the Haaga-Helia firewall. This means that the services of the Haaga-Helia network are available in the same manner as when you are using your computer at home. Also, check remote access instructions.

Restrictions

The right to use the HeliaPublic network is limited to students and staff of Haaga-Helia.

Visitors can get the username and password to Eduroam by sending email and daily keyword to the service.

Using Helia wireless network

You need to configure the following settings to use the HeliaPublic:

  • SSID = HaagaHeliaPublic (Notice the upper and lower case letters)
  • Network Authentication = Open
  • Data Encryption = Disabled

Wi-Fi access via text message

You will also need a username and password for accessing internet thru network. Here's how to get them easily via your phone.

  • Send a text message, that contains daily keyword to the number +358  457 397 7059.

  • You will receive shortly a text message containing your temporary username and password to Eduroam network (see sample below). They are valid for one day.

     

Please note, that

  • Daily Keyword can be seen on the info screen at campuses.
  • Access for groups can be ordered before hand and for longer period from HelpDesk.
