Study time and graduation within the statutory study time

It is important that you are capable to complete all the studies required for the degree within the statutory study time.

The statutory study time

  • for a Bachelor’s degree (210 credits): 3,5 years, or 7 semesters
  • for the degree of Bachelor of Culture and Arts (240 credits): 4 years, or 8 semesters
  • for a Master’s degree: 2 years, or 4 semesters

According to the Universities of Applied Sciences Act 30 § (932/2014) full-time students have the right to complete the studies leading to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a university of applied sciences in a time period of at most one year exceeding the normative duration of the studies.

STUDENT CHECKLIST

  1. The first period is 17 August – 9 October 2026 (weeks 34–41).
  2. At the beginning of the semester, please check and make changes to your PSP, if necessary. If you need guidance, please contact your Guidance Counsellor. More information about Planning your studies and making enrolments for implementations.
  3. The second period is 19 October – 11 December 2026 (weeks 43–50).
  4. If you have made changes to your PSP, send it for approval by 28 October 2026.
  5. Remember to pay the healthcare fee to Kela by 15 November 2026. More information about the healthcare fee for students in higher education.
  6. Timetables for spring semester 2027 will be published in Lukkarikone (Timetable tool) on 19 November 2026. After that, you can plan your own study schedule.
  7. The enrolment time for spring semester 2027 courses begins on 25 November and ends on 2 December 2026. The second enrolment round begins on 14 December 2026. 
  8. If you need to make changes to your attendance/non-attendance for the spring semester 2027, they must be made on Peppi during 25 November – 2 December 2026.
  9. The third period is 18 January – 19 March 2027 (weeks 3–7 & 9–11).

Note! Kela (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland) usually grants financial aid for students at the beginning of the studies only for the statutory study time. If you need financial aid after this, you need to apply for it separately. You can also get financial aid for the summer time. More information from Kela web pages >>
