Developing employer cooperation in Work&Study studies

The aim of the project is to develop cooperation and dialogue between employers, students and teachers in Work&Study studies.

The project will pilot a 2-credit course at the Open University of Applied Sciences as part of an admission course, which those who successfully complete it can be selected for Haaga-Helia's Bachelor of Hospitality Management studies. The admission course combines classroom teaching, online learning and on-the-job learning: the learner, teacher, guidance counsellor and employer work in close cooperation to develop the student's competence. Therefore, the course includes personal guidance, workshops and co-creation.

Another goal of the project is to create a digital tool for communicating Work&Study studies. Learners, teachers, guidance counsellors and employers will work together to create a visual roadmap for the ThingLink platform that describes the content and goals of the studies. The tool aims to facilitate low-threshold communication that supports everyday on-the-job learning and increases both the employee's and employer's understanding of Work&Study studies and their benefits, as well as the links between the studies and the learner's work tasks and career development.

The target group is people working in the hotel, restaurant and tourism industry who have work experience but do not yet have a university degree in the field. The project responds to the shortage of experts in the hospitality sector and the challenges of studying alongside work. It also supports an individual's uninterrupted career, degree-oriented learning and strengthening their position in the labour market. The model developed in the project supports the continuous learning and serves as a basis for the wider introduction of Work&Study model at Haaga-Helia. The model and its best practices will also be shared nationally, for example, through cooperation between 5AMK and 6AMK.

The project is a logical continuation of the Work&Study model developed earlier at Haaga-Helia, increasing employer cooperation in the planning and implementation of studies and enabling even smoother learning paths.
