UAS Moves – movement as part of everyday student life!

Physical activity supports both wellbeing and learning, but in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to neglect movement. This is where the UAS Moves project, launched this autumn, comes in.

Haaga-Helia continues its collaboration with Laurea to promote a movement-friendly higher education culture. The development work started in the 3UAS Moves project will continue in the UAS Moves project, which also includes the student unions Helga and Laureamko.

Movement, physical activity and light exercise will increasingly be integrated into teaching and everyday student life. The goal is to make movement a natural part of the higher education community’s activities – in ways that suit everyone.

1. More activity in everyday studies

We have created an activity etiquette, a jointly developed guideline on how movement is incorporated into everyday life at the higher education institution. It encourages small actions, such as standing, stretching or walking during breaks.

2. Movement in learning

Movement can be part of learning – not just something to fill breaks. Through physically active learning, we bring more movement into teaching and develop movement mentor and movement agent activities.

3. Concrete experiments

We want to strengthen wellbeing through concrete actions and experiments. We focus especially on supporting students who are less physically active and encourage choices that promote health and learning. The aim is to increase motivation and opportunities to move – also together with others.

The UAS Moves project continues the work started in the 3UAS Moves project during the academic year 2024–25. The project is implemented by Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The goal is to embed movement into everyday study and work life, thereby strengthening learning, wellbeing and community in higher education institutions.

UAS Moves is funded by the Get Finland Moving programme of the government programme, which aims to increase physical activity across all age groups. The project has received a grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture. The project period is 08/2025–07/2026.

More information about the project is available on the websites of Haaga-Helia and 3UAS.
