The ethical guidelines for data and artificial intelligence for the field of education and training were published on 25 October 2022. The guidelines enable teachers, trainers and designers to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence, while critically and ethically evaluating different solutions and methods of implementation from different perspectives.

The guidelines also describe the areas through which AI-based teaching could be developed and how to increase the understanding and commitment involved in the organisation.

Ari Alamäki, Principal Lecturer at Haaga-Helia, was part of a group of experts who drew up guidelines for the European Commission.

– Artificial intelligence significantly changes teaching and learning, but at the same time its use can involve many ethical risks that need to be identified and minimized. This is matched by the newly published AI code of conduct, says Alamäki.

– This report, published by the European Commission, succeeded in bringing practically all aspects of the topic, from technology to different uses, the principles of ethics and reliability of artificial intelligence and the skills required of teachers.

Haaga-Helia has been profiled in AI-related expertise in recent years. For example, the University of Applied Sciences coordinates the AI hub of the Ulysseus Alliance.

Haaga-Helia is also preparing a master's level Erasmus Mundus joint degree related to the utilisation of artificial intelligence, the first of its kind in Europe.
