Student substance abuse program
Substance use can significantly affect a person's ability to study, work, and cope with everyday demands. Patterns of substance use established during studies may continue later in life. For this reason, it is important to address substance use already during the study years.
A student's substance abuse problem may manifest as repeated absences, lateness, reduced efficiency, or delays in studies. Substance abuse is often linked with other psychosocial difficulties that can further impair academic progress and work performance.
In this program, substances refer to alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications used for narcotic and / or intoxicating purposes.
The goals of the substance abuse program are to:
- promote the ability to study and work,
- support student health and well-being,
- prevent substance-related harm
- facilitate addressing a student's substance abuse problem, and
- improve referral to appropriate care.
