Ulysseus holds in Helsinki its second Summit to work on its future Academic Offer

Members of the Ulysseus community are participating in Helsinki in the second Ulysseus Summit. From today until Wednesday, Ulysseus’ team will work at the Pasila Campus on the premises of the Haaga Helia University of Applied Sciences, one of the members of the Alliance.

This event is attended by academic representatives and staff members from the partner universities of the Ulysseus alliance: University of Seville in Spain, Université Cote D’Azur in France, University of Genoa in Italy, Technical University of Košice in Slovakia, MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® in Austria and the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland.

The summit started with the welcome of Minna Hiillos, President and CEO of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences - during an opening season which was attended by the rectors of the University of Seville, Miguel Ángel Castro – as the coordinator of the project – and the rector of MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®, Andreas Altmann. Representatives from the other universities of the Alliance were also welcomed during the event.

The speeches from Hiillos and Castro highlighted the importance of European values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and human rights in the current context of crisis and war in Ukraine. Also, they both explained how Ulysseus continues building safe and inclusive learning spaces for scientific and social progress in the heart of Europe.

During the opening session Petri Honkonen, Minister of Science and Culture of Finland and the Deputy Mayor of Education in Helsinki City, Nasima Razmyar, welcomed Ulysseus community to Helsinki and highlighted the importance of Ulysseus to reimage education and research for a new system that strengthens European values.

Academic development of joint programmes

Further to the work done in the previous Summit in Kosice, Ulysseus reached some agreements on Ulysseus’ academic development of joint programmes. In this sense, Ulysseus’ first two double master’s degrees’ agreements were approved and signed during the first day of the Summit in Helsinki. This is a milestone created in line with Ulysseus’ vision to foster mobility opportunities and cooperation among its partner universities.

These two double degrees are the Ulysseus Double Master Degree in Food Technology and Industry and Science in Engineering (Food Technology and Nutrition Programme),; and the Ulysseus double master’s degree programme in “Mechatronic and Smart Technologies” and “Design and Engineering of Products and Industrial Installations in PLM and BIM Environments” ), both by the University of Seville and MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®.
