User data processing: Haaga-Helia takes data protection and security seriously, which is why Moodle was developed to automatically remove the user accounts of users who have already graduated/end their studies or left the service. In practice, this means that the user data is automatically deleted, and the data is stored in Moodle for 180 days after the end of the user account validity. After that, the data will no longer be recoverable.

Working with workspaces: Data protection and data security are important here too, and Haaga-Helia has clarified the process of removing workspaces. The workspaces are archived in accordance with the degree regulations to archive implementations  6 months from the evaluation of course. After archiving, the student can no longer see in the workspace. The data will be deleted from the archive 2 years after the ending date of the workspace. We recommend that you:

  • at the end of the course, you (student) will recover the desired information before archiving (7 months after the end of the course) and
  • course be completed within 6 months of the evaluation (Degree regulations).

Common implementation templates: Moodle has gradually introduced unified implementation frameworks to provide students and staff with a unified user experience at Moodle. The work takes time and requires learning, but this work helps us all provide high-quality teaching and service. We will continue this good work next academic year.

Other improvements: The collaboration between Moodle and Teams has been developed and improved. Some of the implementations have already implemented the integration of Teams classrooms and Moodle, and this implementation will continue during 2022-2023. A couple of new tools have been introduced to Moodle, such as Group Selection.

Exiting applications in summer 2022: On 30 June 2022, a Kyvyt.fi tool will be removed from Moodle. Kyvyt.fi service provider terminates the service. Please recover all the information you want from Kyvyt.fi servers. The Journal tool will also be removed on June 20, 2022 for privacy reasons related to the tool and the end of the tool's update support.

Moodle's future improvements: Moodle is being prepared during the academic year 2022-2023 towards the upcoming major Moodle 4 update. This process involves updating the logon method, updating the system to version 4.1, and expanding the add-ons. We also strive to enable seamless access to M365 services, Teams, and other Office apps in Moodle. We renew Moodle's instructions and guides to serve users better.

The renewed Moodle will be launched in summer 2023, but many changes will be gradually introduced during spring 2023. We regularly inform you of the progress of the project.
