Lift or stairs? A small choice that we make many times a day.

During the summer, new posters have appeared in the lift lobbies of the Pasila and Porvoo campuses, encouraging people to choose stairs instead of a lift. In addition, inspirational messages have been added to the stair-risers.

Movement cheers up the mind and helps to learn

Even small activity choices affect well-being. Using the stairs increases movement in the middle of the working day.

– Movement has been shown to promote brain health and affect positively on concentration and mood. This often makes learning easier, says Haaga-Helia's Principal Lecturer and the new Project Manager of the UAS Moves project Paula Harmokivi-Saloranta.

The next time you are on campus, take a look at what the stairs have to say. You may find a new favourite word of encouragement along the way!

Haaga-Helia is committed to increasing physical activity in everyday work and study. The posters for the lift lobbies and the motivational messages on the stair risers were produced in the spring of 2026 in the UAS Moves project.
