Attendance policy will be loosened in August
We are loosening our attendance policy in Haaga-Helia’s teaching to meet the current situation and students' feedback. The changes will enter into force on 1 August 2026.
Body
We have reassessed our practices now that everyday student life has returned to normal on campuses after the pandemic.
If you are a bachelor student, absences will no longer lower your course grades.
If you are a master student, absences will not lower your grade nor affect the passing of the course.
The changes will enter into force on 1 August 2026.
If you are a bachelor student, you still need to attend at least half (50%) of the teaching sessions marked in your timetable to receive an assessment for the course. The same practices apply to daytime and blended learning.
Student feedback influenced the change
Attendance practices have been reviewed on the basis of feedback received from students. We have collected feedback from several forums, including through the student union Helga and various discussion events.
Exceptions to the attendance requirements are made when the student has a long-term illness. In such cases, please contact a special needs teacher.
The attendance practices apply to bachelor's and master's studies, not to professional teacher education.
