What is the difference between the open collection and the restricted collection in Theseus?

In the open collection, a thesis is available as a full-text pdf file. If a thesis is saved to the restricted collection, it can only be read on Haaga-Helia network, the same way as a thesis saved in HHThesis. The metadata and the abstract of a thesis are openly available in both collections.

The restricted collection is intended for theses that can’t be saved to the open collection because the commissioner prohibits it. However, a thesis is always a public document, which can’t include concealed sections. Anyone has the right to ask for it, if they are interested in reading it. When a student saves their thesis to the Theseus restricted collection, they need to make sure that there are not, for instance, trade secrets in the thesis, in its abstract or in other metadata. More instructions on dealing with professional and trade secrets in a thesis can be found in the student MyNet.

Haaga-Helia encourages openness

Haaga-Helia has signed the Declaration for Open Science and encourages both staff and students to open access publishing. Haaga-Helia’s theses are principally published in the Theseus open collection.

What happens to the HHThesis database?

New theses will not be saved to HHThesis starting 18.1.2022. Theses already saved in HHThesis will remain in HHThesis, where they are accessible on Haaga-Helia network. Theses already in HHThesis will not be transfered to the Theseus restricted collection.
