In the beginning of October, the first Training of Trainers week of the ENRICHER hubs project was organized in Kutaisi, Georgia. Altogether 18 teachers from Georgia and Moldova participated in this first week of the series of four training weeks.

During the week, participants and trainers worked together in training sessions sharing insights and experiences in various topics relating to sustainable tourism, e.g., tourism and development, sustainability and tourism impacts, tourism stakeholders, trends and changing customer behaviour in tourism, and EU best practices in sustainable tourism. Interactive group work was actively used as a method during the training sessions.

The training was carried out by the EU partners of the project: Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences along with MCI from Austria and University of Genoa from Italy. The week was hosted by Akaki Tsereteli State University (ATSU).

Outside of the classroom, the host ATSU organized two excursions. The participants experienced Sataplia Cave and visited the picturesque Motsameta Monastery. There was also a Georgian dinner in restaurant Kalakuri, where the guests experienced the Georgian Supra led by the host university. This was a great way to get to know not only the rich culinary culture of Georgia but also the trainer team better.

The feedback for the training week was overwhelmingly positive. The participants are already looking forward to the next training week, which will be organized online in the beginning of November. The team of 18 participants will play a crucial role in the next phases of the project, as the hubs will be established in each partner university in Georgia and Moldova next year. Each partner university will open training centres – hubs – where training related to service design and sustainable tourism will be organised for both students and tourism stakeholders.
