Study voucher for Open University of Applied Sciences

The study voucher is for young people who have completed a secondary-level qualification after 1 December 2025 and who did not receive a study place in the higher education admissions process. With the study voucher you have an opportunity to complete up to 30 ECTS credits free of charge at an open university. The study voucher can be used to courses that are taught in Finnish and Swedish. You can check your eligibility for the study voucher and activate it in the Opin.fi service in August 2026.

At Haaga-Helia Open UAS, you can use the study voucher to take individual courses or begin open path studies leading toward a degree — all without entrance exams.

A large share of the studies is offered online, allowing you to complete them at a time that suits you — even alongside work, if you wish.

If you are hoping to become a degree student as soon as possible, you can use your 30-credit voucher for open path studies and get a strong start towards degree studies. Haaga-Helia’s open path studies consist of first-year degree courses. Once you have completed at least 45 ECTS credits at Haaga-Helia Open UAS with good grades, you can apply for admission to a bachelor’s degree programme at Haaga-Helia through the Open Path application route. In the Open Path admission process, you do not need to take an entrance exam.

You can receive a study voucher in August 2026 if

you have completed your first upper secondary qualification (matriculation examination, vocational upper secondary qualification or further vocational qualification) after 1 December 2025,
you are under 29 years old on the day you graduate with an upper secondary qualification,
and you applied for a study place in the spring 2026 joint application process but were not admitted or did not accept the place you received from a higher education institution.

If you are entitled to the study voucher, you can activate it in the Opin.fi service on 5 August 2026 when the higher education admissions in the joint application process are confirmed and admission from waitlists has also ended.

In other words: you do not need to apply for the study voucher separately, and its activation is not binding for you.

The study voucher is a payment instrument with a total balance of 30 academic credits. From August 2026 onwards, you can use the study voucher as a payment method when registering for open higher education courses taught in Finnish or Swedish found in the Opin.fi service.

You can use the study voucher in its entirety or in smaller parts during its validity period. You can complete a total of 30 academic credits with a study voucher over a two-year period.

Enrolling with a study voucher to Haaga-Helia studies:

Make sure you have activated your study voucher on the Opin.fi service.
A study voucher can be used to pay for one course unit/ module at a time, so please enrol in courses one by one.
Add your selected course to the basket, click “Studybasket” at the top of the page, and then click “Move to Studybasket.”
Review the payment and cancellation terms, privacy policy, and any prerequisites, and click “Continue.”
Identify yourself using your online banking credentials via the Suomi.fi service.
Fill in your details and proceed with the payment method selection.
Select “Study voucher” as the payment method, click “Continue,” and choose the Opin.fi icon under “Proceed to Payment.”
Log in again on the Opin.fi service and confirm the payment using your study voucher.
The system will confirm that the payment has been successfully completed. You can return to the higher education institution’s online shop via the button or wait to be automatically redirected.
Haaga-Helia Open UAS online store will confirm that your enrolment has been completed, and you will also receive an automatic confirmation email.

Success in studies requires good knowledge of the language of instruction and sufficient study skills. Completing studies in English requires good written and oral English skills. Learning tasks are always completed in the language of instruction of the course.

The study voucher covers the selected Open University of Applied Sciences course fees (up to 30 ECTS credits). Other costs (e.g., books and other study materials) are your own responsibility. You must have a smartphone (capable of using Microsoft Authenticator or a similar app) and a laptop available for the entire duration of your studies.
