Thesis Instructions COACH
Starting Your Thesis
The thesis process includes:
- Research and Development Skills course, 5 credits (ANA001HH1AE)
- Thesis worth 15 credits
The thesis begins with the Research and Development Skills course (ANA001HH1AE), which equips you with the necessary skills to complete your thesis. Once you have an idea for your thesis topic, you will submit a topic proposal via the Wihi system, where the entire thesis supervision process takes place.
Instructions for Registering in Wihi:
- Open Wihi.
- Log in using your Haaga-Helia credentials. (Note: If you have previous or other student credentials, check under your name in the upper right corner to ensure you're registering in Wihi with the correct role and student ID.)
- Click the Topic Proposal link (on the right-hand side).
- Fill in at least the fields marked with a red asterisk.
- Click the Submit button.
Progressing with the Thesis
Once you have registered in Wihi, you will be assigned a supervisor. Contact your supervisor to start working on your thesis plan. If applicable, arrange the thesis process with your commissioning organization using a commissioning agreement. Coordinate supervision with your supervisor and ways of collaboration with your commissioning organization throughout the process.
The thesis process is divided into three phases:
Phase 1: Preparing the Thesis Plan
Draft your thesis plan and have it approved by your supervisor. Once the plan is approved, you will earn 5 credits.
Phase 2: Writing the Thesis
As your thesis nears completion, submit it for pre-assessment to your supervisor in Wihi. Your supervisor will evaluate if the thesis is ready for the intensive period and provide feedback. After pre-assessment, you will earn another 5 credits.
Important Deadlines for Pre-Assessment:
For graduation before Christmas, submit your pre-assessment version by the end of Week 44. For graduation before summer, submit your pre-assessment version by the end of Week 15. Allow approximately three weeks for pre-assessment and subsequent revisions. Submit the version for assessment in Wihi at least one week before the intensive period.
Phase 3: Finalizing the Thesis and Intensive Period
The intensive period for thesis and work placement presentations will be held in Vierumäki and Zoom twice a year in November and April/May. You must sign up for the intensive period in advance with your supervisor once you submit your thesis for pre-assessment.
Finalize the thesis and prepare to give a 30-minute presentation of your thesis. Reserve 15 minutes for the assessment discussion after the presentation. Attendees may ask questions or provide comments following the presentation. The assessment discussion also includes an oral self-assessment, where you can reflect beyond what is included in the written thesis.
In addition, prepare to give a 30-minute presentation of your work placement (e.g., the nature of your employment, learning experiences, etc.). Obtain feedback from your commissioning party using the feedback form.
The thesis abstract will be evaluated as a maturity test.
Once the thesis is approved: Upload your thesis to Theseus. View the evaluation in Wihi. Earn the final 5 credits.
