UPBEAT – Upskilling Immigrants for Business Planning and Entrepreneurship using AI Technologies

The UPBEAT project addresses the shared challenge of immigrant integration in Finland and Estonia. Immigrants and refugees, due to skill mismatches or other barriers, often grapple with limited employment opportunities leading to high unemployment rates and subsequent increase of social welfare costs, talent emigration and rising social tensions.

The primary objective of this project is to reverse this trend by fostering a more inclusive society through targeted upskilling in entrepreneurship and business planning using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

AI has two roles in the project:

  1. AI as a leverage for entrepreneurship (for market analysis, business planning, financial planning etc.): AI for getting market insights, AI for creating a business model of a new business etc.
  2. AI as a leverage for upskilling (for teaching and learning): AI for generating teaching cases, AI for coaching students etc.

Activities

  1. Review and analysis of existing upskilling opportunities in the selected countries and cutting-edge AI capabilities
  2. Curriculum design and requirements analysis
  3. Customization of AI-driven upskilling digital tools for immigrants
  4. Creation of an AI-driven learning program
  5. Upskilling implementation via trainings

Main outputs

  1. Creation of AI-driven digital tools for upskilling in entrepreneurship and business planning
  2. Creation and delivery of an AI-driven upskilling (training) program in entrepreneurship and business planning

These outputs primarily benefit immigrants who will gain critical tools and knowledge needed for successful ventures into business sectors. The UPBEAT project aims to improve people’s competitiveness on labour market and entrepreneurship capabilities.
