The representatives of Haaga-Helia and Mall of Tripla were visibly happy as the location of the new premises for the hospitality management education was unveiled on 12 December 2024 in a launch event. The location was revealed in a video made by Haaga-Helia's student Markus Friman. The decision provoked admiring exclamations and resounding applause from the staff gathered in the auditorium of the Haaga campus. President Teemu Kokko had to admit that tears came to his eyes.

– I am happy and proud. We have carefully reviewed different facilities that would meet all our needs. Thank you to the people of Tripla for the good negotiations, Kokko said.

Päivi Salonen, CEO of Mall of Tripla, said that people of Tripla are very happy to welcome Haaga-Helia at Tripla.

– When we heard about your goals and wishes regarding the premises, we immediately knew that we want to and we must be involved in this, Päivi Salonen said.

At the launch event, Degree Director and Campus Manager Risto Karmavuo presented the new facilities, and representatives of Haaga-Helia and Tripla solemnly signed an agreement. Finally, a toast was raised to new premises and opportunities.

The name RestoCamp speaks of the tourism and hospitality industry and community spirit

RestoCamp was chosen as the name of the facilities to be located in Tripla. A total of 100 current and past Haagahelians participated in the idea competition held in November, and a total of 163 name proposals were submitted. Most of the participants were staff members, but alumni were also active, and we also received a few suggestions from students.

The winning idea was submitted by lecturer Jari Karjalainen, who was rewarded with a magnum bottle of champagne at the launch of the new premises.

Degree Director Risto Karmavuo explained the reasons and associations behind the name RestoCamp. According to him, the name is clearly attached to the industry: "resto" refers to hospitality management in Finnish, and camping is tourism. "Camp" refers to a base camp, a space to do things, and also to a campus without being a full-fledged campus.

– In addition, it speaks of a sense of community – in Finnish we go "kämpille". We don't mind the reference to camp spirit either, nor the associations with the luxury hotel Kämp. If the letters of the camp are deciphered, "Culinary", "Accomodation", "Meetings" and "People" open from them. On top of that, the abbreviation RC works well in Peppi as well, Risto said.

The second and third places in the competition were shared among all those who had proposed the names RestoHub and Hospitality Hub. The proposals were presented anonymised to the jury that selected the winners.

What happens next?

Haaga-Helia's teaching in the tourism, hospitality and event industry will move from the Haaga campus to the Pasila campus on Ratapihantie and to new premises in Mall of Tripla in autumn 2026. Haaga-Helia's sublease agreement on the current Haaga campus expires in February 2027.

RestoCamp's spatial planning will begin after the turn of the year, and alterations will be carried out during summer and autumn 2025. Haaga-Helia's own service design experts and Customer Experience Designer students are involved in the design. In 2026, the premises will be decorated and furnished. The academic year 2026–2027 will begin in the new premises.
