During 2023, Haaga-Helia formed a network of seven partner HEIs in Africa who were interested in planning and co-creating research-based solutions to address the global learning crisis and research collaboration projects with focus areas in collaboration between higher education and world of work, entrepreneurship education in higher education, innovations in higher education pedagogy, sustainability in higher education, quality of education in higher education and leadership in higher education.

The first remote partner meeting was held on 13 April 2023, with 39 participants from member universities. The meeting was organized to share ideas, perspectives and to promote dialogue. These partnership dialogues, the needs and insights of the partner African institutions, will serve as a basis for the beginning collaboration. The network also decided to form communities of practice to facilitate innovative, practical and theoretical knowledge sharing in the higher educational environment and to share learning experiences.

At the moment, Haaga-Helia´s partners in GINTL are the following universities: University of Mpumalanga, Vaal University of Technology, Durban University of Technology, Namibia University of Science and Technology, Tshwane University of Technology, Johannesburg University and Walter Sisulu University. GINTL is coordinated by the University of Helsinki and the network was initiated with funding by the Ministry of Education and culture.

Haaga-Helia´s GINTL Africa network organized an online seminar on 22 April 2024. The seminar theme was “Sustainability in Higher Education”. More details of the seminar here.

The network also organizes monthly online coffee sessions around different pedagogical themes. Selected hosts from partner universities encourage participants to casually share ideas, swap stories, cool lessons, surprising findings, pro-tips and chat about good practices of teaching and learning. The sessions are open to all interested.

Director Crister Nyberg and Principal lecturer Päivi Aarreniemi-Jokipelto are acting as pedagogical advisors of Haaga-Helia School of Vocational Teacher Education working in the network.
