Clearer news reporting – the potential of artificial intelligence in journalism
How can generative AI make news easier to understand and more accessible? The need for plain language news production is growing rapidly in Finland – reasons include the diverse language skills of immigrants, the declining literacy skills of young people, and challenges with concentration. When news can be presented more clearly and tailored to specific target groups, it also strengthens democracy and participation in society.
The project AI-assisted news content targeting is organising an event: how generative artificial intelligence can be utilized in plain language news reporting!
Time: October 7, 2025, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Location: Haaga-Helia Pasila Campus, Ratapihantie 13, Helsinki, and online
At the seminar, we will share the key results and findings of the project. We will focus in particular on the use of generative artificial intelligence in plain language news production and, more broadly, on tailoring news for different readers.
Participants will include Mia Laakso from Selkomedia and Pälvi Tammi from YLE's Selkouutiset. A more detailed program will be published in September.
The event is free of charge, and you can register to attend in person or follow the event via livestream. The last day to register for in-person attendance is October 1. You will receive the livestream link when you register before the event begins.
The event will be held in Finnish.
