Victor Kweku Ayertey from Vilnius University spent the 2024-2025 academic year as an exchange student at Haaga-Helia. Upon reflecting on their exchange experience and time at Haaga-Helia, Victor has compiled some tips to help fellow exchange students get the most out of their time studying in Finland.

Victor also suggests that exchange students choose for classes that provide hands-on experience and industry collaborations, such as projects with companies. 

Victor took courses and participated in projects that worked with Visit Finland and Wolt. Additionally, Victor found the KREA Strategic Concept Design and Storytelling course beneficial to his development. The courses challenged him to develop practical solutions for real business cases, making learning exciting and impactful.

3. Get Involved in Volunteering and Student Networks

Volunteering is a fantastic way to gain experience, build connections, and develop new skills. Organizations like SLUSH, ESN Haaga-Helia, XES Helsinki, the Finnish-African Society, and the FINE Ecosystem offered Victor valuable networking opportunities and practical learning experiences. 

4. Explore Finland’s Nature and Culture

Finland’s beauty extends beyond its cities—embracing its nature and culture will enhance your exchange experience. Take advantage of the changing seasons by hiking through forests, visiting islands, experiencing saunas, and traveling across the country. 

5. Attend Networking Events and Enjoy the Perks

Expanding your professional and social circles is key to maximizing your exchange.
