Housing for exchange students

Lobby

Lead paragraph

Finland is one of the safest countries in the world and all residential districts in Finland are safe to live in. The quality of the apartments is good: they are well equipped and warm throughout the year. Nature and public transportation are usually nearby.

The exchange students' accommodation application process varies between Haaga-Helia campuses. Before submitting your housing application, please check where your preferred campus is situated. It is important to note that students studying Tourism or Business can be placed either in Helsinki or Porvoo, depending on their study field. You can still apply for housing in Helsinki even if you do not yet know your Haaga-Helia campus.

Exchange students coming from non-European countries are given priority in student accommodation due to immigration rules if they have applied within the given deadline. Students coming from European countries are placed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Accommodation in Helsinki (Pasila and Haaga campuses)

Exchange students who apply to study in Helsinki (Haaga and Pasila campus) can apply for accommodation from HOAS (Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region).

Due to the large number of applicants, housing is not guaranteed to all applicants, especially in the autumn semester, but most applicants normally receive housing through HOAS. However, as the housing situation in Helsinki is challenging, students are strongly recommended to apply and accept accommodation offered by HOAS as finding affordable furnished accommodation from the private market in Helsinki can be challenging.

The public transportation in the Helsinki metropolitan area is very efficient, so it is very easy to get to Haaga-Helia's different campuses from different suburban areas. Students get a 40% student discount on a monthly transportation card (for more information, please see the HSL website).

Housing options in Helsinki

Accommodation in Porvoo

Students coming to study at the Porvoo Campus can apply for housing from the A-yhtiöt that has student housing next to the campus. Haaga-Helia has reserved a certain number of flats that will be offered to the exchange students. Students apply for housing via separate application which will be sent at the same time as the Acceptance letter to Haaga-Helia (please note the application time is short). A-yhtiöt flats will be given on a first-come first-served basis.

The Haaga-Helia's reserved flats are 2 bedroom apartments with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Students have their own bedrooms. Rooms include a bed, chair, and a desk. The rents vary from  350 - 480€ / month including furniture. Additionally, there is a water and electricity fee 50€ / month.  The internet is free of charge.

The students who do not receive one of the Haaga-Helia's reserved flats, can apply for other available A-yhtiöt flats. Haaga-Helia can then offer furniture for these flats separately. It is possible to look at private housing offers too.

Porvoo campus also offers free of charge starter packs to lend with utilities for the kitchen. We will provide more accommodation info for all students.
