This is a monthly newsletter. It contains topical information for Master students.

Enrollment for spring implementations  

Remember to enrol for 3rd period implementations by Fri 12 Jan at 16.00 o’clock. Enrollment for 4th period implementations ends on Fri 22 March and enrollment for summer implementations ends on Fri 17 May. Master studies start on week 3 i.e. from January 15, 2024 onwards. The course offering can be found on Master students’ timetable web pages. On the same pages you will also find the link to Timetable tool (Lukkarikone) where you can find detailed schedules for courses.

Thesis planning: Data Management Plan must be included  

The instructions for the thesis plan have changed, see Master's Thesis websites. From now on, the plan must also describe how the collected data will be managed and stored. The instructions can be found in the thesis plan template, and they are also discussed in the Applied Design Research course. In addition, the student can modify the consent form and the research bulletin for the interviewees for his/her own needs. Templates for these are on the aforementioned thesis website. 

Master seminars in the spring 2024   

In the Master seminars, topics for theses are brainstormed, and in addition, the graduating students present their thesis.  

Master seminars take place on the following Mondays from 17.00-19.30: 

  • February 5th in English 

  • March 25th in Finnish 

  • April 22nd in English 

The teachers responsible for specialisations inform the students separately about the seminar agenda and place.

Thesis workshops in the spring 2024  

The thesis workshops support the planning and implementation of the Master thesis and are intended for all Master students. Participating in the workshops is voluntary and does not accumulate study points, but according to the feedback, they are useful at every stage of the thesis. Ulysseus Entre Camp Nice for Master students

Master students, apply now for the Ulysseus European University's Entre Camp in Nice, taking place in June! The application deadline is 31st January 2024. Following the great success of the previous Entre Camps Ulysseus European University will organise the third edition of Entre Camp in Nice, a 5 ECTS summer school, from 10th to 14th June 2024 at the University of Cote d'Azur in Nice. 

You will develop solutions for a smooth and sustainable future from the perspectives of ageing and well-being, together with an international team of teachers and students. Students will be selected based on academic achievement, progress in studies and a motivation letter. The Ulysseus Entre Camp is a five-day intensive camp that includes company visits and a variety of leisure activities together with international students. Read more here.

CERN Bootcamp 

3UAS organises a CERN Bootcamp, which is an innovative study concept implemented together with CERN Ideasquare, universities and ATTRACT project. Bootcamp provides a unique international learning experience to the group of Master’s degree students with multidisciplinary educational background. The focus of the studies is to solve societal problems or challenges by applying service design methods to have a genuinely people centered, empathetic approach. 

This intensive course includes a trip to the Cern Bootcamp in Geneve, Switzerland. During the Cern Bootcamp intensive week students develop solutions to the global challenges to achieve sustainable development goals. 

  • Apply no later than January 31, 2024. 

  • Kick-off in Finland: 14.-15.3.2024  

  • Intensive program in Geneve: 3.-7.6.2024, flights on 2.6. and 8.6.

3AMK's Steps Towards a Doctoral Path

Have you thought about continuing your studies or writing a dissertation? Now is a good opportunity to take the idea forward with 3AMK's Steps Towards a Doctoral Path (5 ECTS).

The purpose is to develop the skills needed for planning scientific research and to speed up progress in research career carried out in academia and work life. You will learn about ethical planning of research, management of a research project and goal-oriented leadership, as well as development-oriented research. 

The aim is to gain inspiring insights and skills for planning scientific research and managing research projects. 

  • Enroll no later than January 12, 2024. 

  • Intensive days: 3.4.-15.5.2024, on Wednesdays. All lectures are conducted online.

The thesis should be started at the beginning of the third semester i.e. second study year the latest. You can find support and information from Master thesis web page and on the Applied Design Research course. If you don’t have a thesis topic yet, remember to participate in the Master seminar of your specialisation where you can get support for ideation.
