Master's Degree Programme in Sports Coaching

The studies are grounded in athlete-centred and holistic coaching. You will develop your intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, strengthen your ability to design, implement, and evaluate coaching processes, and explore athlete development pathways and the development of coaching environments. 

The studies combine current research, practical coaching experience, and collaborative learning. You will learn to critically examine your own coaching practice, exchange perspectives with experienced professionals, and apply research-based and professional knowledge to your own professional context. The aim is not simply to learn more about coaching, but to develop as a coach and contribute to building better coaching environments. 

The studies are designed to be completed alongside work and combine online learning, independent study, and contact teaching. The programme typically includes 6–7 two- to three-day contact and intensive study periods, combining online and on-campus learning. On-campus intensive study periods are held at Haaga-Helia’s Pasila and Vierumäki campuses. These contact periods are an important part of the learning experience, supporting collaborative and peer learning and the development of professional networks. Learning activities and assignments are closely connected to students’ own professional contexts, enabling them to apply and develop their expertise in practice. 

The Sports Coaching is offered in Finnish and English in alternating years. 

In 2027, the Sports Coaching will be offered in English, and in 2028 in Finnish.
