Volunteers can be found in different areas, such as volunteering at public events, business events, international congresses and exhibitions. As an event volunteer, you usually work at an event without being paid, however receive other non-monetary benefits in return. These can include free meals, free access to the event during breaks, or volunteer certificates for future job applications. Especially for students, a non-paying job may often sound deterrent. However, you should always keep in mind that everyone starts small and volunteering is a great opportunity to gain professional experience and establish yourself in the industry, as well as network with people from the event industry. You constantly hear from today's top managers that they worked their way up through volunteering. So, it is important to remember that unpaid volunteering can open the doors to your future career.

Events by Haaga-Helia is offering Haaga-Helia students many possibilities to gain work experience and study credits through volunteering. Students are signing up as volunteers to events like World Expo in Dubai, Nordic Business Forum, Slush, Habitare, PRO-Gaala, Evento Awards, and many more. The tasks typically include customer service tasks like welcoming and guiding guests, hosting speakers and VIP guests, handling registration and info desk services, assisting exhibitors and partners, helping with the setting up and dismantling of the event. During virtual and hybrid events students assist as chat-moderators, breakout room hosts and they help out partners in their virtual exhibitions booths.
