Ulysseus online lecture: AI, ethics, and bias
Welcome to the Ulysseus Open Online Lecture Series!
Title: AI, Ethics, and Bias: Shaping the Future of Technology
Speaker: Belén Vega Marquez, Assistant Professor at the University of Seville
Language: English
In this talk, Belén will highlight the critical need to integrate ethical frameworks into the rapid evolution of modern technology and Artificial Intelligence. The session explores how AI has become a primary driver of innovation, already surpassing humans in complex tasks such as language and image recognition, while also warning about the risks associated with its enormous power, including misinformation, privacy violations, and the lack of oversight in autonomous systems. A significant part of the talk focuses on the challenge of bias, emphasising that technology often inherits the prejudices of its human creators, which can lead to social inequalities. Ultimately, the session serves as a call to action for individuals and society to prioritise ethical technologies and make conscious decisions to ensure that technological progress effectively contributes to making the world a better place.
