Senior Researcher Anna Lahtinen from Haaga-Helia notes that this initiative builds upon a successful partnership established two years ago, when Haaga-Helia specialists delivered AI training to Bauer Media's innovation team.

"This contact demonstrates that the rapidly developing and complex field of artificial intelligence is creating a growing need for training based on research evidence and supporting both the development of work and work processes, as well as practical innovation," Lahtinen states.

The programme's technical expertise will be led by Senior Researcher Janne Kauttonen, while R&D Communications Specialist Martti Asikainen will facilitate hands-on, participatory workshops focused on AI applications, alongside discussions on ethical considerations and responsible implementation strategies.

"We have been pioneers in the media industry in utilising artificial intelligence – a good example of this is our twice-awarded collaboration with STT," says Sini Kervinen, Innovation Director at Bauer Media.

The pioneering project integrates written content by STT journalists with Bauer Media's proprietary AI-assisted automation technology, enabling AI-powered news narration. The initiative received international recognition with the EANA Innovation Prize in Rome in October 2024, and national acclaim through the Great Journalist Prize 2024 in the 'Innovator of the Year' category in March 2025.

"Now it's time to take the next step and bring artificial intelligence into our daily processes," she states.

The training programme includes a total of four hybrid events as well as preliminary assignments to be completed separately, and is expected to benefit the entire staff.

The aim of Haaga-Helia's training team is to provide the skills and enthusiasm to utilise the company's advanced AI tools and make them a natural part of everyday life for all staff.
