Marjut Mulari “Maikki” is already familiar to some from the walking events on Haaga campus last autumn, but new winds are blowing, and in the future, she will be seen more often on campus - Maikki started as a university chaplain in Haaga-Helia in early March.

How do you think you can support the well-being of students in Haaga and Malmi?

- Well-being is composed of many different aspects and it is important to support all of them, Maikki summarizes.

Even though Maikki works as a university chaplain, she emphasizes that her actions are not tied only to matters of faith. She hopes to support students’ mental well-being universally. Maikki is there for the Haaga-Helia community as a whole in any matter.

Maikki has previous experience in the student world and the challenges it brings, since she has worked as a university chaplain at Aalto University. She finds it meaningful to be able to work with students, especially when the pandemic situation has affected the well-being of many.

- I'm here as a low-threshold support, regardless of faith, and you can come talk about anything. I hope everyone would have the courage to ask for help when they need it. I'm here for you.

What is your great wisdom for students?

- You’re doing amazing in spite of everything.

Maikki hopes that every student will know and recognize how valuable and important everyone is in this difficult world.

- You are enough as you are, and you can just be yourself, Maikki says as her most important message.

Whatever your concern regarding your well-being is, Maikki can be approached on a low-threshold via email, messaging on WhatsApp, or calling. You can chat with her via messages or make an appointment face to face. Appointments can be arranged for Mondays or Tuesdays and for acute matters by agreement. You can also follow or approach Maikki on Instagram @pastorimaikki.
