Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences expresses its support for Ukraine together with the Arene, the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences. Russia's hostilities and violations of international laws in Ukraine are strongly condemned.

Haaga-Helia and Arene consider it important that the working peace of UAS communities is maintained despite the international situation.

- The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine deeply affects everyone and creates insecurity in the Finnish UAS community as well. It is absolutely reprehensible to blame individuals for the situation because of their nationality or origin, says Mervi Vidgrén, President of Arene.

HAAGA-HELIA wants to remind everyone that it has Russian degree students and staff who are completely innocent of the deteriorating security situation in Europe.

Haaga-Helia also has zero-tolerance for racism. In practice, this means that we do not accept racism, discrimination, or any other harassment at our University of Applied Sciences.

There are also Ukrainian students in Haaga-Helia who are being supported in various ways. Our thoughts are with them and with the people close to them.

There are no known Haaga-Helia students in Ukraine. Students in Russia have been informed about the situation and will be supported by all possible means.

We also would like to remind everyone, that no one is returned from Finland to a country at war. After the expiry of their residence permit, they can apply for refugee status.

Due to the situation in Ukraine, a group has been set up in Haaga-Helia to closely monitor developments and draw up guidelines. The group is led by Rector Minna Hiillos.

Students and staff will be informed about the progress of the situation and the possible effects on the operation of higher education institutions.
