Tourism and Event Management, the online entrance examination

The entrance examination will be arranged in two parts: the written part and the oral part.

First part will be a Written exam on 4 February 2021 from 12:00 to 14:00 Finnish time (GMT+2/EET). For checking the right time, please use http://www.thetimezoneconverter.com.  All applicants are invited to participate in it. The Written Part consists of multiple choice questions, an essay and logical thinking and mathematics tasks. There are no pre-reading materials. All the necessary materials are provided to you during the exam. The exam will take place online on the Webropol platform, you will be provided with a link later.  

The second part is an oral interview held for those applicants who have passed the part 1.  The interviews will be held during 19 February 2021. Invitations to the interview will be sent by email latest on February 15, 2021. You will also receive your personal participation time to the motivation section/discussion section (30 minutes) and new instructions in the email.

Those who did not pass Part 1 will be notified of their scores via email latest on February 15, 2021.

PERSONAL ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE EXAMINATION AND IDENTIFICATION

For the Written Part, you must have a computer with internet access and a quiet room where you will complete the examination alone. Please make sure that all the latest updates have been installed on your computer.

PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENTS OF THE WRITTEN PART

Preparing for the Written Part which will be on 4 February 2021

- at 11:45 Finnish time, go into a quiet room alone with your computer, so that you will be able to focus on the exam as well as possible. Check that the internet connection is good. Test will open at 12:00.

Write the tasks in the form and submit by 14:00 Finnish time sharp.

THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING PARTS:

  Part 1 (Written part) consists of:

No pre-reading materials, all materials will be given to you in the Webropol exam.

  • An article-based essay (min 10 points, max 30 points)
  • Multiple choice questions (min 4 points, max 10 points)
  • Logical thinking and mathematics tasks (min 8 points, max 30 points)

The lowest accepted score in the written part is 24 points. You must participate in and pass each part of the test with the above-mentioned minimum points in order to be qualified for part 2 (interview). All tasks will be in English and you are required to answer only in English.

Those who pass the written part will be invited to the Oral part of the entrance exam which will take place on a date indicated to you through email, which will also contain further instructions. The invitation emails will be sent by the latest on 12 February 2021, so it is very important to check your emails (including spam folder) regularly. 

The aim of the oral part is to measure your motivation, suitability, teamwork skills and career orientation towards hospitality and tourism business studies. In the interview you will demonstrate your realistic expectations to complete the bachelor's studies. In addition, you will show your oral English language skills required in the Tourism and Event Management Degree Programme.

The Part 2 (Oral part) consists of the following:

  • Group task and individual motivation, online (min 10 points, max 30 points)

During the interview students will be answering questions separately as well as asked to perform a group task. Applicants will be asked about their motivation and aims for the future. Teamwork and some analytical skills are measured through the group task. Some context and short written materials may be given to applicants to guide through the group task, and each group will present their results to the interviewers as a team.

Both the written and oral part will test your English language skills. A separate English language test will not be arranged.

STUDENT SELECTION

Please note that may accept only one study place in higher education in Finland from studies starting during same academic term (1.8.−31.12.2021) in Universities of Applied Sciences and Universities in Finland. If you accept a study place, your other study options will be automatically cancelled (concerning joint and direct (separate) applications). The results of the student selection will be published in www.studyinfo.fi in the My Studyinfo section 4 June 2021 at the latest. NB. The final results may become available earlier. You must confirm your study place by 16 July 2021 at 15:00 Finnish time at the latest. You can confirm your study place via internet in Studyinfo through My Studyinfo using electronic identification, e.g. account codes of a Finnish bank, or by submitting a paper confirmation form to the Study Services of Haaga-Helia Porvoo Campus by the deadline.

Please, also note that the admission of a student is conditional until Haaga-Helia has checked the applicant's school and other relevant certificates. Haaga-Helia may withdraw the admission, if the applicant does not provide his/her certificates by the deadline or if he/she has given inadequate or false information.
