Information concerning the entrance examination of Degree Programme in Business Information Technology, Helsinki, Finland

Applicants, who have confirmed their attendance to the Helsinki entrance examination in the application form on Studyinfo.fi, have been invited to entrance examination by email on 24 September 2021 at the latest. Applicant's eligibility will be checked after the entrance examination. There are no other dates or places for the Helsinki entrance examination other than the ones mentioned here.

Entrance examination of Degree Programme in Business Information Technology in Helsinki, Finland will contain two phases:
1) written part at Haaga-Helia Pasila campus (Ratapihantie 13, Helsinki, Finland) on 6 October 2021
2) online interview part on 25–28 October 2021.

CONFIRMING ATTENDANCE

You do not need to confirm your attendance in the entrance examination beforehand.

PRE-READING MATERIAL

There is no pre-reading material for the entrance examination. All material will be given during the examination.

IDENTIFICATION

The applicant must show a valid ID when attending the written part and the online interview part. Only these types of valid IDs are accepted: a passport, an EU/EEA country Identity Card, an official Finnish ID card, or a Finnish Driving License. Other types of IDs are not accepted.

WRITTEN PART ON 6 OCTOBER 2021

Arrival, parking and personal items

Haaga-Helia Pasila campus (Ratapihantie 13, Helsinki, Finland) has good public transport connections by train, tram and bus. The campus is situated right next to the Pasila Railway Station and Messukeskus, Expo and Convention Centre Helsinki. Find more information about public transportation on HSL’s website. There is no customer parking at the venue, but parking is available, for example, in Veturiparkki, Resiinaparkki, Mall of Tripla and Messukeskus.

Please, bring your own pencils/pens, eraser and sharpener with you to the written part of the entrance examination. You may also take a water bottle without label or text with you. Applicants are not allowed to use dictionaries, calculators, mobile phones or any electric appliances in the written part of the entrance examination.

Safety instructions (COVID-19)

NB. Notice that you can attend the written part of the entrance examination only, if you are feeling healthy. You cannot take part if you are ill, having even minor symptoms or if you are placed in an official quarantine or having a voluntary quarantine.   • We highly recommend you to minimize close contacts for two weeks before attending the written part of the entrance examination.
  • Use the main doors when entering the campus, please. To avoid crowds, you may have to queue outside for a while, so be aware of the weather conditions, and arrive on site in time as instructed below on chapter Registration at 7:45–9:00.
  • Keep a safety distance to staff and other applicants already when you’re outside of the venue, and also while moving inside the campus.
  • You must wear a face mask when arriving to the venue, and during the whole time you are in the campus.
  • Take care of your hand hygiene: use hand sanitiser (available in all campus’ spaces), and/or wash your hands with water and soap. 
  • In case you are assigned to an exam room that locates in floors 2–6, please, use the stairs, if possible.
  • In the exam rooms, all applicants will be seated in a way that safety distances can be maintained.
  • If you suspect that you might have become infected with a coronavirus after the written part of the entrance examination, contact your local health care provider.

Registration at 7:45–9:00 Finnish time (EEST – Eastern European Summer Time, UTC +3h)

You have to register for the written part of the entrance examination at Haaga-Helia Pasila campus. The registration starts at 7:45 A–L / 8:15 M–Ö according to the first letter of your surname on the written part examination day. Please, arrive on time for the registration.

  • Registration A–L (according to the first letter of your surname) 7:45–9:00
  • Registration M–Ö (according to the first letter of your surname) 8:15–9:00

Written part at 9:00–12:00 Finnish time (EEST – Eastern European Summer Time, UTC +3h)

  • Written part of the entrance examination starts at 9:00 and ends at 12:00
  • (You can leave the written part of the entrance examination earliest at 9:30)

Please, be on time in the exam room assigned to you. If needed, you can check the Finnish time (EEST – Eastern European Summer Time, UTC +3h) e.g. with the Time and Date website.

ONLINE INTERVIEW PART ON 25–28 OCTOBER 2021

Entrance examination’s interview part will be conducted online. To participate in the online interview part, it is required for you to have a computer or a laptop with a stable and reliable Internet connection. If you are using a laptop, please check your laptop’s battery has charge.

The online interview part will take place on 25–28 October 2021, and will be conducted via video conferencing platform called Zoom. Online interview will take about 15 minutes, and it will be in English. During the online interview you are required to use (your laptop’s/computer’s) webcam and microphone. If you are not able to use webcam and microphone, you have an alternative possibility to attend a face-to-face interview at Haaga-Helia Pasila campus (Ratapihantie 13, Helsinki, Finland). In that case, contact immediately the degree programme’s representatives by email: bite(at)haaga-helia.fi. Based on the results from all applicants in Helsinki’s and Saint Petersburg’s written parts on 6 October, we’ll invite to the online interview part a maximum of 108 applicants independent of the written part location by email on 20 October 2021 at the latest. More detailed instructions for the online interviews will be given on the interview invitation email.

THE TWO-PHASE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING PARTS:

Written part on 6 October 2021

  • Part based on material given in the examination (min 6 points and max 20 points)​
  • Mathematical and logical skills (min 15 points and max 50 points)​
  • Motivation and written English language skills (min 3 points and max 10 points)

Online interview part on 25–28 October 2021

  • Online interview (min 6 points and max 20 points)

You must participate in and pass each examination part in order to qualify in the selection process, the total minimum being 30 points. Missing or failing one part means failing the whole entrance examination automatically. All assignments will be in English.

CO-OPERATION WITH OTHER UNIVERSITIES OF APPLIED SCIENCES, ACCEPTANCE OF ENTRANCE EXAM RESULTS AND VISA PROCEDURES

Kindly note that Haaga-Helia´s Degree Programme in Business Information Technology accepts only entrance examination results gained in its own examination. The entrance examination result is valid only for this application period. Scores received in the entrance examinations of other degree programmes in Finland or abroad are not transferrable/accepted to this programme.

In case you need a visa, please contact the local Embassy for the requirements. Notice that Haaga-Helia UAS cannot influence the decisions in regards to visas.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION COSTS

The examination is free of charge. Haaga-Helia UAS does not reimburse any material or travelling costs; applicants need to cover those themselves.

INDIVIDUAL ARRANGEMENTS IN THE ENTRANCE EXAM

If you require individual arrangements in the entrance examinations to Haaga-Helia UAS due to health conditions, learning disability or other special reason, fill in and submit a written request for individual arrangements in entrance examinations to Haaga-Helia’s Admission Services by 22 September 2021 at 15:00 Finnish time. Please, attach a doctor’s certificate. Admission Services will inform you about the possible arrangements. CERTIFICATE

If you need a certificate of participation in the written part or in the online interview part of the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology entrance examination, please indicate it to the staff at written part’s registration (regarding the written part) or to the teacher conducting the interview (regarding the online interview part).

TUITION FEE

There will be a tuition fee applicable to students who are not citizens of countries of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. The amount of the tuition fee in Haaga-Helia UAS is EUR 9,500.00 per academic year in Bachelor’s programmes taught in English. More information about Tuition fees and scholarships.

STUDENT SELECTION

You may accept only one study place in higher education in Finland from studies starting during same academic term (1.1.−31.7.2022). If you accept a study place, your other study options will be automatically cancelled (concerning joint and direct (separate) applications).

Applicants accepted to the programme will be informed by email. The results of the student selection will be published on My Studyinfo on 26 November 2021 at the latest. NB. The final results may become available earlier. You must confirm your study place by 3 December 2021 at 15:00 Finnish time at the latest. You can confirm your study place on Studyinfo through My Studyinfo using electronic identification, e.g. account codes of a Finnish bank. If you are not able to use My Studyinfo, you can confirm the study place by using the confirmation link you have received by email. In case you are not able to confirm your study place online, please contact us for further instructions (contact details below).

Please note also that the admission of a student is conditional until Haaga-Helia UAS has checked the applicant's school and other relevant certificates. Haaga-Helia UAS may withdraw the admission, if the applicant has given false information. All relevant documents will be checked by Haaga-Helia’s Admission Services, so please do not take those to the entrance examination.
