IT-Skills 1 and 2. Basics of Finance 1 and 2. Basic Excel skills is a must to be able to partisipate to the course.

Learning outcomes

Student knows the Excel from the financial perspective and is able to use it efficiently. Student is able to use the ready-made financial Excel functions and is able to explore and model for example the effect of the change of the coupon interest to the duration.


Course is as practical as possible and will have many different exercises, like:

  • Bond- and durationcalculators
  • Import values from external sources
  • Simple portfoliomanagement system
  • Currency position management system
  • REPO – calculators
  • DEPO – calculators

Due to the practical nature of the course a student must actively participate and do all the home exercises to be able to pass the exam at the end of the course.

Lecture notes and other materials given by a teacher. Any basic financial Excel book is an asset.

Students' performance is graded on the following scale: Excellent (5), Very good (4), Good (3), Satisfactory (2), Fair (1), Fail (0).
