Starting level and linkage with other courses

The student has successfully completed English for International Tourism course.   The course will be carried out as a joint project with the following 4th semester courses / parts of courses: Ammatillinen viestintä 2 (COS2RM0022), English for Tourism Professionals 2 (ENG2RM203), Skriftlig affärskommunikation inom turismen (SWE2RM203), Kansainvälinen verkottuminen (OPE2RM0021), Tutkimusmenetelmät 2 (OPE2RM0023), Matkailupalvelujen kehittäminen ja myynti 2 (PSS2RM0022), Työyhteisön kehittäminen ja johtaminen 1 (SCS2RM0021), Kirjanpidon ja verotuksen perusteet (BES2RM0022) ja Asiakkuuksien hallinta (BES2RM0023).

Learning objectives and assessment

Grade 1
He/she has basic professional  communication skills  required in the industry, with particular emphasis on product development or selling travel services. He/she is able to implement professional language competence and key vocabulary in projects of the term with the assistance of peer students or a supervisor. She/he knows basics of writing academic texts and has limited awareness of structure and style and is able to give presentations at a passable level.

Grade 3
He/she has adequate  professional  communication skills required in the industry, with particular emphasis on product development or selling travel services. He/she is able to implement professional language competence and key vocabulary in projects of the term relatively independently. She/he sufficient knowledge of how to write academic texts in proper structure and style and is able to give presentations at an appropriate level.

Grade 5
He/she has excellent professional  communication skills required in the industry, with particular emphasis on product development or selling travel services.. He/she is able to implement professional language competence and key vocabulary in projects of the term independently. She/he writes fluent academic texts in proper structure and style and is able to give professional presentations.

Passed courses are assessed on a scale of 1 to 5. The assessment criteria are presented for grades 1 - 3 - 5.

Recognising and validating prior learning (RPL)

If students have acquired the required competence in previous work tasks, recreational activities or on another course, they can show the competence with a demonstration and progress faster through their studies. Working life connections

Guest lectures and company visits together with the major subjects of the term.

Internationality

Possible guest lecturers from partner institutions or international companies. International learning materials. Students take part in a study tour abroad.
