PhD Pilvi Heinonen works as a lecturer at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. Her expertise relates to communication skills, conversation analysis and interaction in institutional settings, such as pedagogical interaction and sales interaction. In her PhD thesis she analyzed evaluation as a teacher’s interactional practice in classroom interaction. The analysis was focused on classroom participation: how teachers use evaluative actions to guide pupils’ participation and to negotiate the limits and dimensions of appropriate activity.
In her current position as a lecturer in communication skills Pilvi Heinonen instructs students in presentation skills, project communication and academic writing. She also supervises thesis work in her expertise areas. Her current research interests include multimodal conversation analysis. She is involved in research projects in interactional practices in pedagogical settings (Touch in School) and interactional order in non-digital and digital sales negotiations (DICIA).
