Maarit Ohinen-Salvén is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Swedish language and communication at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. Her main areas of expertise are second language acquisition, e-learning and learning styles. She has a strong interest in applying new pedagogical solutions as well as methods to motivate the students with the aim to improve their learning skills and outcomes.
Prior to her teaching career, Maarit Ohinen-Salvén has worked as a Department Coordinator at the Department of Languages and Communication at the Helsinki School of Economics (HSE) being responsible for student advising and international affairs. Besides these administrative tasks, she also worked as a part-time teacher in Swedish language and communication at HSE. She has also worked as a Secretary for International Affairs at the Theatre Academy.
Maarit Ohinen-Salvén completed her Ph.Lic. at the University of Jyväskylä in 2013 in the field of Applied Linguistics. Her licentiate thesis focuses on how learners with different learning styles can best use and profit from the different opportunities offered by e-learning in their second language acquisition. The study also discusses the alternatives to integrate the traditional learning in the classroom with the distance learning using the solutions offered by e-learning. Maarit Ohinen-Salvén has also published several educative books.
