Lead paragraph

Work placements are an important part of your studies and can be done in Finland or abroad. The timing of your placement will depend on your degree (see below Guidelines for degrees).

At Haaga-Helia, the total duration of the work placement is 30 credits. Work placement can be full-time or part-time, in one or more parts, in one or more workplaces. During the placement, it is important to keep a record of the hours worked to ensure that you complete the required number of hours (800 hours in total). The work placement will be carried out in accordance with the normal working hours for the sector. The placement will be reported to the work placement supervisor at the end of the placement.

Suitable work placement and how to find it

One of the objectives of the work placement is to learn how to find, apply for and obtain a job in your field. You are responsible for finding your placement. Any job that supports your training and offers sufficient challenge is suitable.

You can do your traineeship in a company, public body or other organisation, such as an association or organisation, at home or abroad. You can also work as an entrepreneur.

You can search for job and trainee vacancies, for example on JobTeaser, where you can also find tips and material on job search and career planning. You can log in at haaga-helia.jobteaser.com. Haaga-Helia Career Services also offers you support for career planning and job search.

Paid work placement

If your work placement is paid, you will need to sign an employment contract with your employer. The contract is then between the two of you and does not need to be submitted to Haaga-Helia. In the case of a paid work placement, the employer will insure the trainee with the statutory employee insurance.

Unpaid work placement

If your work placement is unpaid, it is important that you draw up an unpaid work placement agreement with your employer. The work placement agreement guarantees you accident insurance from Haaga-Helia, covering the work placement and any related business trips. The work placement contract must be signed before the start of the placement.

Work placement and thesis

It is recommended to find out if your thesis could be linked to the development needs of the work placement company, which is a natural and desirable continuation of the work placement.
