Please read through the materials found on this page and make sure that you also have read the guidelines on "General Materials" page concerning deadlines for accepting your study place, enrolment for the academic year and submitting copies of degree and work certificates to ensure your study place in the degree programme.
Starting your studies
The studies will start with an orientation day, on Saturday, 18 January 2020 at 9.00 – 16.00 in Pasila campus (Ratapihantie 13, 00520 Helsinki).
The day begins with registration. Please bring your photo ID with you. During the day, you will learn more about the curriculum structure and content and receive guidance on course enrollment and on other practicalities. You will also meet your fellow students, teachers and academic advisors.
Attendance on the orientation day is compulsory. In case of force majeure, please contact Student Affairs Office.
Curriculum, specializations and course schedule
The extent of the master´s degree is 90 credits and it takes 1.5 to 3 years to complete. The studies consist of 20 ECTS common studies, 20 ECTS specialization studies and 20 ECTS free-choice studies, in addition to the Master’s Thesis (30ECTS). The specializations are introduced in detail on the Orientation Day and you will make your specialization choice in February.

Courses and schedule
After the orientation day, you will meet other master students and advisors in common specialization evenings. Please reserve these dates in your calendar already now: Tue 28.1, Mon 3.2., Wed 4.3., Thu 2.4. and Tue 5.5. at 17.40-20.30. During the spring semester you will also decide on your specialization and start your studies and your thesis.
Course schedules will be published as soon as possible but at the latest on the second week of December. There are several types of course implementations, such as evening, intensive, partly- or fully-virtual. Evening sessions are on the same evenings at 17.40-20.30, 7-8 weeks in a row. Intensive courses consist of three Fridays and/or Saturdays at 9-16. Virtual courses might have one face-to-face orientation session at the beginning of the course.
We recommend you to take 2-3 courses in spring 2020. You will also start working on your thesis on February onwards. During the first months, you will prepare your individual study plan (ISP) and discuss about credit transfers and recognition of prior learning (RPL) together with your supervisor.
Please note that you are required to have your own laptop during your studies.
Verification of original certificates and conditionality of student admission
Students enrolled as present must bring their original degree and work certificates to the Admission Services in Pasila campus during the first week of their studies, at the latest.
Please note that the student admission is conditional until the degree and work certificates (copies and originals) and possible translations have been verified. If the applicant does not provide his/her degree and work certificates (copies and originals) by the given deadline or if he/she has given inadequate or false information in the application process, the admission will automatically be withdrawn.
Access to Haaga-Helia networks
You will receive your username to Haaga-Helia networks as an email (from a do_not_reply -address) and the password for the network as a text message (SMS) to the mobile number you have given us while applying to Haaga-Helia. You will get the username and password 7 days before your study right begins at the latest. N.B.: please check your junk-mail if you have not received an email with your username.
