Congratulations to Mário Passos Ascenção (Principal Lecturer) and Pasi Tuominen (Senior Lecturer) for their new publication with researchers from the University of Algarve, Portugal. The article titled “Designing compelling accommodationscapes: Testing a framework in a rural context” was published in the Tourism and Hospitality Research journal.
The study proposed the construct “compelling accommodationscape” and empirically tested a theoretical framework in a rural context through the lens of experiential marketing. The structural equation modelling applied to data supported the five external factors (physical stimuli; product-related factors; staff performance; social interactions; and theme) that underlie the proposed construct, and in turn, compelling accommodationscape was positively related to tourists’ satisfaction and positive behavioural intentions.
The study was part of Haaga-Helia’s The Box project, which run between January 2nd, 2016 and June 30th, 2018. The Box was a cross-disciplinary project developing sensory-stimulating technologies for service design, marketing and product development. It aimed to help investors and operators in the hospitality and tourism industries improve service experiences and increase customer value.
The Box won the PRO 2018 award for best innovation in the restaurant industry.
