Body

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences will strive to normalize its operations from Monday, February 28, 2022, when a considerable part of the teaching will be provided as contact teaching again.

There may be course, degree programme, and campus-specific variations in the teaching modes, so keep yourself updated on the teaching arrangements of your studies.

At Haaga-Helia, the well-being, health, and safety of staff and students are the number one priority, which means not only providing contact teaching but also taking extra measures to guarantee everyone's safety.

The reason for increased contact teaching on the campuses is to support the well-being of Haaga-Helia's students, build up their community spirit and guarantee the smooth progress of studies.

Events can be arranged on campuses on a case-by-case basis if they follow the authorities' instructions, and safe distances and other safety instructions.

Safety instructions on campuses

No one is allowed to enter the campuses when sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

The use of face masks is at people's own discretion. The mask is recommended for use indoors, for example, where it is difficult to avoid close contact. Haaga-Helia also offers masks for use by staff and students until further notice.

The authorities recommend the use of face masks in particular:

  • If you are in transit to a coronavirus test or treatment due to a suspected infection
  • If you have symptoms of a respiratory tract infection and must move about in public
  • If you know you have been exposed to the coronavirus (for example, a family member has tested positive) and you must move about in public

Policies related to studies and students (28 Feb onwards)

From 28 February 2022 onwards, we want to continue to offer contact teaching opportunities widely to all students to ensure a smooth progression of studies, as well as team-building and well-being.

In teaching, the majority of the implementations will be offered as contact teaching. Some of the courses can also take the form of online teaching and a combination of contact and distance learning.

Students belonging to risk groups should avoid close contact during the epidemic and are therefore not recommended to participate in contact teaching. (THL: Risk groups for severe coronavirus disease)

Organising exams: on campus, using Exam, or in an online environment.

The thesis process and related supervision tasks are arranged in face-to-face meetings and/or online.

Student welfare services are provided either on-campus or online.

Services and facilities on campuses

Libraries and computer classes are open.

Student services, IT services, etc. are open on campuses and also online.

Restaurants and caféterias are open on campuses. There is no unified policy for lunch, as the restaurants decide independently on their own operations. Check your campus lunch options and lunchtimes on the restaurant’s own website.

Student exchanges and work-related travel abroad

Students’ and staff members’ work or study-related travel abroad might be carried out taking into consideration the national and international safety instructions. We welcome exchange students at Haaga-Helia and Haaga-Helia’s degree students can also go on an exchange if the covid situation and travel instructions from the authorities allow it.

When traveling, one should follow the recommendations of countries to which it is currently safe to travel according to the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). A risk assessment should be made if travel is necessary. Any quarantine regulations must be followed.

In our decision-making, we follow the regulations and instructions of the authorities, carry out a risk-based assessment of the prevailing conditions and modify the guidelines as necessary.

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences will continue enhanced cleaning, and the cleaning staff will wipe the tables daily in both work and study spaces. Enhanced cleaning of sanitary facilities on campuses will also be continued.

Also everyone must keep in mind that the responsibility for our safety lies first and foremost with ourselves.
