
Enhancing Haaga-Helia's educational partnerships: Teemu Kokko and Crister Nyberg visit South Africa
Teemu Kokko, President and CEO of Haaga-Helia, and Crister Nyberg, Director of the School of Professional Teacher Education, visited Haaga-Helia's partner universities in South Africa on April 7-8. During the visit, they met with representatives from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the University of Johannesburg, and also visited the Finnish Embassy in Pretoria.

Ten-Year Cooperation with Tshwane University of Technology Continues
At Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, discussions continued on developing teacher education. The cooperation between Haaga-Helia and TUT has been ongoing for ten years. The meeting emphasized the importance of building networks and new joint projects.
The event was hosted by TUT's Vice-Rector for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, Ben van Wyk.
Focus on Sustainable Development and AI at the University of Johannesburg
The University of Johannesburg is part of Haaga-Helia's GINTL Africa network and has been involved in various project preparations with Haaga-Helia.
At the University of Johannesburg, discussions focused on building sustainable educational pathways, particularly on how vocational and higher education can be seamlessly integrated. Finnish best practices sparked interest, and the meeting also highlighted interest in collaboration on integrating innovations and artificial intelligence into education and leadership development.
The meeting was led by Professor Kathija Yassim, who has also visited Haaga-Helia.
Support for Higher Education Cooperation from the Finnish Embassy
During the visit, Nyberg and Kokko also met with Veera Virmasalo, Team Finland Knowledge expert at the Finnish Embassy in Pretoria. Virmasalo monitors higher education and science policy in South Africa and supports the visibility and cooperation opportunities of Finnish higher education institutions in the region.
