Business Service Solutions and Languages, the entrance examination in Helsinki

Welcome to the entrance examination of the Degree Programme in Business Service Solutions and Languages. The entrance examination will take place on 8 April 2021.

The entrance examination will be arranged fully online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are sorry for any inconvenience this arrangement might cause you.

THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

The entrance examination consists of two parts:

  • Written Part at 9:30 – 10:15 Finnish time (UCT+3)
  • Interview between 11:00 – 17:00 Finnish time (UCT+3)

You must confirm your attendance to the entrance exam by this Webropol link latest 5 April.

On Thursday 8 April at 08:30 Finnish time, you will receive a Webropol Survey link to the written part with the examination questions. If you do not find this email in your email inbox, please check also your junk mail folder. The link to the written part opens at 9:30 and closes at 10:15 sharp.

You will receive a calendar invitation to the Interview 6-7 April. Please check your email during these days. The interview will take about 40 minutes.

The Written and Interview parts of the entrance examination will also test your English language skills. A separate English language test will not be arranged.

The examination is free of charge.

PERSONAL ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE EXAMINATION

For the Written Part, you must have a computer with internet access and a quiet room where you will complete the examination alone. Please make sure that all the latest updates have been installed on your computer and your computer is charged. You are not allowed to visit other sites, use your phone or communicate with other people during the exam. Have some paper sheets and a pencil available.

The examination software supports the following up-to-date browsers – NOT Internet Explorer

  • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Safari

Please make sure that you have Java Script and cookies enabled.

For the Interview Part, you will need a computer, a webcamera, your ID, and a good internet connection. Headphones are strongly recommended.

IDENTIFICATION

You must show a valid ID when participating in the Interview part. Only these types of IDs are accepted: a valid passport, an official Finnish ID card, a Finnish Driving License, or a valid national Identity Card from your home country. Other types of IDs are not accepted. Without a valid ID you cannot attend the interview.

PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENTS OF THE INTERVIEW PART

The interview will be done online via Zoom, a video conferencing software.

The interview session will take about 40 minutes and will include both individual questions and a group discussion. The interview is in English. You are not allowed to use dictionaries, papers, pens or any other material or devices during the interview.

Before participating in the interview, make sure of the following:

  • Download the Zoom app on your computer. It is recommended that you test the Zoom beforehand. You can also join in a test meeting provided by Zoom to familiarize yourself with it.
  • You have a functioning computer with a camera and a mobile phone for solving possible connection problems. Make sure that you have enough power in the battery of the computer, so that it will not run out while having the interview.
  • It is recommended that you have headphones with a microphone.
  • You are located alone in a quiet and private area with a simple, plain wall in the background. Adjust the lighting if needed. Make sure that light comes from in front of you so that your face is illuminated, NOT from behind you or from the side.
  • You must have a valid ID at your disposal during the interview. Only these types of IDs are accepted: a valid passport, an official Finnish ID card, a Finnish Driving License, or a valid national Identity Card from your home country. Other types of IDs are not accepted.
  • You have a good internet connection so that the interviewer can see and hear you well. It is recommended that you use a wired network, if possible. If you use Wi-Fi, please make sure all other devices are offline during your interview. Also make sure you are as close as possible to the router and that there are no thick walls in between you and the router.
  • Be punctual and join the meeting on time. We cannot reschedule the interview times.

To join the interview please open the “Join Zoom Meeting” link, which will be provided in the calendar invitation sent to you.

If you cannot open the link, please do the following:

  1. Open the Zoom App
  2. Click Join a Meeting
  3. Enter the meeting ID number (you can find this number in the calendar invitation) and your display name.
  4. Select that you would like to connect audio and video and click Join.

The aim of the Interview Part is to measure your motivation, suitability and career orientation towards the chosen studies, realistic expectations to complete the bachelor's studies and oral English language skills required in the Haaga-Helia degree programmes.

CONFIRMING ATTENDANCE
 

You need to confirm your attendance to the entrance examination beforehand latest 5 April by this link. Link to the written part will still be sent to all applicants regardless of confirmation of attendance.

CO-OPERATION WITH OTHER UNIVERSITIES OF APPLIED SCIENCES

The Haaga-Helia Degree Programme in Business Service Solutions and Languages organizes its own entrance exam. Scores received in the entrance examinations of other degree programmes in Finland or abroad are not transferable/accepted for this programme.

STUDENT SELECTION

Please note that you may accept only one study place during one academic term (1 August – 31 December 2021) in Universities of Applied Sciences and Universities in Finland. If you accept a study place, your other study options will be automatically cancelled (concerning joint and direct (separate) applications).

The results of the student selection will be published in www.studyinfo.fi in the My Studyinfo section on 4 June 2021 at the latest. NB. The final results may become available earlier. You must confirm your study place by 16 July 2021 at 15:00 Finnish time at the latest. You can confirm your study place via internet in Studyinfo through My Studyinfo using electronic identification, e.g. account codes of a Finnish bank, or by submitting a paper confirmation form to the Student Affairs Office of Haaga-Helia by the deadline.

Please note also that the admission of a student is conditional until Haaga-Helia has checked the applicant's school, work and other relevant certificates. Haaga-Helia may withdraw the admission, if the applicant does not provide his/her certificates by the deadline or if he/she has given inadequate or false information. All relevant documents will be checked if you are accepted to the programme, so please do not take those to the entrance examination.
